very little gravitas indeed

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

this is my biggest complaint and why we have to beat the shit out of these asshats $60mil of cash burned. didn’t help a single person. didn’t help Michiganders. didn’t really help Israel either. just a waste and nothing to show for it but shame

We've spent so much effort, for so long, to get this. And they lit so much money on fire. Imagine how much community organizing $60 million could have gotten in Michigan. But organized community wasn't the goal.

I am hearing that on her deathbed Haley Stevens received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now she looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet!

obviously this is islamophobia, but it's also the liberal framing of american empire as always being reactive. none of our actions ever have consequences and no one ever has valid historical reasons to be hostile towards america

25 years after the tired American cliche of “why do they hate us,” helped instigate two forever wars (Afghanistan + Iraq), this is how @nytimes.com chooses to explain Iran’s political system:

Screenshot of text extract from NY Times article: “But in a political system premised on hatred of the United States, none show interest in a larger reconciliation with the United States.”

Under-discussed Michigan politics story is that a co-founder of Uncommitted is about to become the Democratic nominee for a seat to the State Senate with the backing of Governor Whitmer

State Senate candidate Abbas Alawieh of Dearborn, cofounder of the Uncommitted movement and ex-chief of staff to Rep. Cori Bush, gave a passionate speech Sunday at the annual Arbaeen procession in Dearborn, declaring in Arabic: I’m American.

that’s all it is. all of this. the “Trans In Sports” fairness question is a trojan horse for what you really want — to keep trans kids hidden away from your own kids, so you can pursue your vicarious, narcissistic parenting project. your children are no more than project cars to you. fuck you
