Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams: “There’s a lot of discourse around trans athletes and what they can compete in. I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team. Anytime. I don’t think it’s a problem in the world, it’s just another way to kind of attack trans people.”

The Devil wears handcuffs: how Russia invents “international extremist movements”
Russia’s prosecution of Satanism shows how authoritarian regimes abuse anti-extremism legislation to suppress diversity and self-expression.

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

If you watch anything on #Moroccans coming to #Ceuta, make it this report. CBS News have interviewed some of them & they confirm that social media posts on Facebook & Instagram told them Spain had opened its borders. They're playing with people's hopes & lives. It's awful. We must combat fake news.
I was reminded this morning I have an “AI Hater” label on here, and I would like to make sure that credential is up to date.
“AI is the asbestos we're shoveling into the walls of our technological society…. Our descendants will spend *generations* digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage.”
Anyone else spending the weekend entirely alone or is it just me? Just me.
Come off it, @andy-burnham.bsky.social, we all know what "difficult decisions" really means. Same old shit.
Oh, @andyburnham.bsky.social we all know what "difficult decisions" mean.
Just be grateful for Donarrhea's astonishing incompetence.
Burnham “I can’t make changes that are not in the manifesto” Labour 2024 manifesto ‘We will not issue new licenses… because they will not take a penny off bills, cannot make us energy secure and will only accelerate the worsening climate crisis’
Deeply irresponsible. We're in a climate crisis. This is such a terrible start. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
I can safely say that, based on today's experience with gay pride, I am the perennial outsider looking in.
Though I've seen only an absurdly small bit of it, this planet is truly awe-inspiring and I weep that humanity continues to not-so-blindly abuse it.
Imagine if we thought about stopping burning fossil fuels and investing in renewable energy instead? Imagine if we invested in tackling the climate crisis, better cyber security and better resilience towards future pandemics. We can do all of these things - we just need the right people in charge.
Britons urged to take ‘small steps’ to prepare for potential national crises
Hiya, folks! In case you haven't guessed, the podcast that inspired this account (and the Twitter account before it) is unfortunately pretty dead for a variety of reasons. But... every now and then, we find a reason to resurface. (1/x)
Brendan has produced a hugely detailed deep dive into the score of Independence Day and how it was written and I was very happy to be the person he asked a few months ago to go through it with a fine tooth comb. Lots of great memories ( and it’s quite long !) www.cinematicsound.net/chat-with-da...

Portes "Theres a lot of nonsense talked, including on Sky, about the spiralling welfare bill.. as a proportion of our national income.. its lower than it was 15yrs ago & its pretty much back to what it was under Thatcher.. this idea its out of control is just wrong" Spot on!
What the actual fuck? Who is advising these numbnuts? Do they not understand that the only growth from 'AI' is in the bank balances of US techbros? Meanwhile actually useful advances in the field, that don't require vast planet killing data centres, get overlooked.
Is everyone following this? UK gov is going to subsidise energy for Data Centres at times of peak usage, meanwhile the rest of us get a 13% price cap hike. www.gov.uk/government/p...
It always come down to "welfare versus warfare". Diametrically opposing terms. Says it all, really.
General Sir Richard Barrons spelling out the narrative thats being pushed: the sick & disabled, kids in poverty, pensioners, they all need to suffer so we can have more bombs.
And slashing the Welsh Government's budget.
Hospital roofs replaced by rockets and guns. Buried in the smallprint - Starmer's defence plan means slashing funding for hospitals to pay for bullets and bombs. Will @andyburnham.bsky.social go along with this?
Meanwhile, in the US. It just takes your breath away. *50 years* in prison for protesting. Don't imagine for one moment that we are immune to this. Already, the legislative framework is in place in the UK to enable such convictions - before we get a Trumplike PM. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Watching London-centric politicians lose their minds at the suggestion of further devolution because "IT COSTS TOO MUCH" while they sit in a mouse-infested palace that is costing taxpayers £40bn to renovate. FYI - £40bn would cover the annual cost of the (expanded) Welsh Senedd for 390 years...
