PlayIndies update for anyone who joined when they weren't accepting ANY Gen AI. They've changed their minds & will now allow *some* Gen AI bc why would any of these key places actually stand up against Gen AI ig. 😒 SO exhausted of places pretending to be Anti-ALL Gen AI till it gets inconvenient 🫠

Answer: We prioritize original work, genuine creators, and meaningful partnerships over AI-generated content, spam, and low-effort submissions. We also recognize that generative AI usage isn't always black and white, particularly when it comes to indie development. Many indie developers are working with extremely limited (often non-existent) budgets, so we try to look at how and why these tools are being used rather than treating every use of generative AI equally. For example, a solo developer using generated placeholder art during prototyping because they don't have the budget to commission prototype assets is very different to a funded studio using generated artwork in the final game instead of hiring an artist. The same can apply to temporary audio or UI assets, internal concept exploration, coding assistance, debugging, workflow tools, or other uses that help a small team get through development without replacing paid creative work in the finished product. There are a lot of grey areas here, which is why we review these situations on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is ultimately to support indie developers while drawing a firm line at generative AI being used as a replacement for people's jobs.
