A Shiny Blue Thing Collected By A Bird

Ugly bird girl. Angry. Parent. Artist. Nonbinary, She/Her. Not anyone of note. Basically a chubby trash panda with anxiety. https://ko-fi.com/shinybluething23640 if you want to help with the cats.

THIS THIS THIS. So many people tell me "I don't know if I really NEED a cane..." and friends, as a Certified Disabled Person (tm), I am begging you, if you think there's ANY way it might help you even a LITTLE, try it! If it helps, keep using it! You don't even have to use it all the time!

Side note: If a walking stick or cane seems like a fun accessory, I (as a disabled person who has had to use a cane from time to time) heartily encourage you to use one! And if it at all makes your life easier, I encourage you EVEN HARDER TO KEEP USING IT.

Child: Look, it's a red Mazda 3 like ours! But it has a roof rack. Me: That's sexual dimorphism. Child: Mom. Me: The rack is for carrying their young; I just don't remember which sex has it. Child: MOM STOP

Another TNVR cat update: today, despite rain so heavy it apparently soaked through my raincoat, I was able to trap the main breeding female of the colony. She was the only one I got that needed to go. Itsy (orange boy who went to the vet yesterday) went into the traps twice and had to be let out.

A thin brown tabby cat who is visibly pregnant, inside a cat trap that has a yellow fleece blanket on top of it.

I'm weirdly finding that as I get older, it's easier to learn new skills, which is the opposite of what I thought was supposed to happen. I don't think we're giving enough credit to a lifetime of built skills. When new skills have overlap w/existing ones it greases the wheels for the new.

15,000 years ago, in one of the the earliest settled communities in the world, a child collected fine clay from the slow-moving river by her home. She then committed an act familiar to all inveterate play-doh enthusiasts; rolling and and pinching the squishy clay into tiny round balls.

Reminded of last summer when Spouse almost died, and they had to put him on an air ambulance to take him interstate for emergency surgery. I had no idea how we would pay. Nobody should have to worry about costs when facing death. The VA covered it, eventually. It cost more than our house is worth.

it is hard to express to someone who was not raised this way that our first thought on getting sick is not "will this treatment cure me?" but "can I get this treatment without going bankrupt???" and it is pretty fucking twisted that we are so numb to how horrifying that is

I hate to ask, because things are awful all over, but there's been no help with the feral cats since the beginning of this awful year. I'm so broke I'm putting off fixing my dryer and stove, both of which are broken. It costs me about 200 a month to feed them, and there's no money for TNR at all.
