Drilling for oil and gas will absolutely not lower bills. It's sold on the international market. And the idea of this being for jobs is utter nonsense. Jackdaw would create about 27 jobs. So when is the moment Andy Burnham will take the heatwaves & the climate crisis seriously?

This is an outrageous failure from Andy Burnham and this Labour Government. He says they "don't know the remedy." It's obvious to almost anyone. Nationalise water companies. Tax fossil fuel companies. Invest in renewables. Labour selling us down the river to please their donors as country burns.
Downing Street's press release for Burnham's "emergency" Cobra meeting on the drought didn't even mention climate, with the Prime Minister blaming the growing numbers of wildfires on disposable barbecues. He's since appeared on GB News this afternoon to talk about migrant camps

Zack Polanski has called out the BBC’s coverage of Reform UK press conferences, but will it change the mainstream media's approach? 🤔 It's one of the topics reporters Steph Brawn and Lucy Jackson get their teeth into on this week's Media Watch podcast 👇

"The climate crisis is stretching the fire service long before it makes headlines" - James Rodgers, London Firefighter It should be a national priority to properly equip UK firefighters and ensure their safety as wildfires rage across the country. No more cuts.
Farage recently started renting a former beauty salon next to a seafood restaurant next to Clacton Wetherspoons, opposite a pirate ship funfair ride, I mean, the rent's gotta be in the millions... No, seriously. What IS this!!!???
Reform spent £4,376,601 on campaigning last year, essentially flat on the general election year - but £8,944,096 on unexplained "office costs". No breakdown anywhere. Much smaller parties than Reform give detailed breakdowns of what went into those figures.
Last week Zack Polanski and the Green Party held a press conference with Chris Packham, the BBC did not play full clips of it This morning, Nigel Farage and Reform UK held a press conference, since, the BBC have continued to play full clips from it
Media: @zackpolanski.bsky.social saying that the #ClimateCrisis is 'the biggest threat to this country since WW2' is 'silly'. David Attenborough: "Climate change is the biggest threat to security that modern humans have ever faced." Oh.

A little bit of an odd request. Does anyone know any textile history experts with knowledge on the linen trade in Brittany, Normandy, or Flanders during the 18th century? Trying to identify a marking on an object in our collection!

BP's quarterly profits more than doubled to £4.2 billion in the three months to the end of June. These are the profits of war and climate chaos. It's time to make the biggest polluters pay.

The same people who have been telling us "we can't stop climate change, instead we must adapt" have been hammering our capacity to adapt, through their promotion of austerity. What they're really saying is "keep burning fossil fuels for the sake of our donors". www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

So much for a fresh start with Burnham. New oil and gas won't cut bills or make Britain more energy secure. But they will lock us into more climate damage. It's time to invest in clean energy, warm homes and the jobs of the future - not to double down on the fuels of the past.
The wildfires in Suffolk are the reality of a fossil-fuelled climate emergency that is making our summers hotter and more extreme. If we have any chance of preventing the worst of the climate crisis, we need to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

“Andy Burnham must surely now reach the obvious conclusion that water should be brought back into public ownership, as the Green party would do, so that any money raised goes back into the system, not into shareholders’ pockets and excessive executive pay.” 🗣 @adrianramsay.bsky.social
