25 years ago so many lost friends, colleagues, family. I had friends at all three sites, and lost many more brothers and sisters since. Today, we will grieve and remember and serve. And I will continue to work in whatever ways I can for a better, more just and peaceful, world.

The June forecast from the NMME ensemble is out for the upcoming #ElNiño. The ensemble mean (thick black line on the first chart) is right around +2.2°C. That's on the roughly same level as the 2015-16 and 1997-98 El Niños, and a bit weaker than the 1982-83 El Niño.

My MS thesis had a chapter called ‘What’s a Whale Worth?’ where I compared & ground-truthed non-market valuation models for cetacea to argue for ways to incorporate conservation & protection into economic modeling & budgetary processes. This is an appalling inverse of that study.
