OUT NOW!!! 🌞 WE BELONG DEAD Issue #49 - SUMMER SPECIAL! My cover art was done in the vibe of those UK Beano summer specials of the 70s and I had a chuckle putting it together. Available to grab from Amazon NOW! #1970scomics #summerspecial #monstermagazine #britishcomics #comicart
Guess I'm as qualified to comment here as anyone, having made my "rep" on historical narrative. Not buying the accusation of plagiarism with which the prof and her allies are filling Bluesky, as I've detailed in other posts. But Tillie and D&Q made a few key mistakes that would have prevented this.
ultimately the fallout of all this is that cartoonists who aren't necessarily trained in academic citation, history and historiography, and don't have a background in that, will be terrified to draw anything nonfiction. and that's not on the academics who feel slighted. that's on comic publishers

10 copies of Vortices for @arcfestivallondon.bsky.social Vortices uses text from 'Sensitive Chaos', a philiosophical/scientific book about the relationship of water and air and deeply personal annotations from one of my copy's previous owners. That's what it is... what it's *doing* is... I dunno.

100% None of the social media commentary is helpful in getting an unfortunate but uncomplicated situation resolved by the principals and most of the third party responses have been quite biased in the technical sense This only had to go public at all if D&Q ignored Cleves’ approaches
I can’t help thinking that it would be better for Cleves and D&Q to have a conversation offline rather than trying to make their points against a sea of baying commentators (95% of whom, as a generous estimate, I’m willing to bet have not read both books).

“Sure, such-and-such play is good, but … HOW much?!” misses the point Paying this sort of money means smaller clubs can still only afford one NEARLY-developed top player, and can never sell him on except to the mega-clubs So the playing field never gets levelled despite wealth increasing all around
