The first job offer I ever got was for web design when I was 16. Some aspiring webmaster liked how I spruced up my ezboard and was wondering if I could give him a hand. It was for a foot fetish website. Part of me kind of wishes that I had taken him up on the offer.
this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again
People wonder why The Gamers are terrible at paying attention to on-screen instructions, but I bet the biggest reason for it is that we've been trained to tune out the 1000+ notifications fighting each other for our attention nonstop. There's no facet of tech that doesn't feel like hostile design.
Every other streamer I watched (understandably) switched to subscriber-only chat, so I subscribed to a bunch of channels I didn't really care to keep up with long-term, and it bloated my notifications so much that I just disabled Twitch notifications altogether, so now I never check Twitch anymore.
I salute Haley Stevens for flushing millions of AIPAC dollars down the toilet.
El-Sayed is projected to win the Michigan Democratic Senate primary and will go up against Mike Rogers in November
I sometimes wonder how much hate mail Cartoon Network received for "ruining" Space Ghost. It had to be more than zero.
I like these Japanese holidays that are just an excuse to draw anime girls in particular outfits. I think they should do more of them. Some suggestions: -Pirate Hat Day -Oversized Hoodie Day -Novelty Groucho Marx Glasses Day -That Stupid White & Gold Or Black & Blue Dress Day -Too Many Arms Day
TIL I learned about Fantasy Critic. I do not think I like this.
do not do this
the reason why people are against censoring sex in media is bc “sex” will end up getting redefined over and over again to fit anybody’s legislative motives and soon enough you (in this case, ASMR channels) will slip through those cracks
a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...
Amazon feeds Twitch into the AI furnace, hoping yet another piece of once-lived in furniture will keep the debt fires burning one day longer. Break the chair's legs off. They're down $309.1B. Rip the chest's drawers out. $309.2. Cut through the desk with a handsaw. $309.3. Nobody needs to live here
Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.
When I replayed Super Mario Sunshine on 3D All-Stars, one of my major takeaways from the experience was concluding that Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 weren't really out of the norm in terms of polish and collision detection, despite how those games are typically talked about. (Sunshine rules btw.)
Since Super Mario Sunshine is coming to Nintendo Classics, here's a repost of a clip from when I played the game for the first time. #SuperMarioSunshine #GameClips
My doctor: you could eat more salads My tv: do not eat the salads that make you poop to death My Secretary of health: it’s ok to eat poison liver as long as you don’t get vaccinated
I was looking for an old quote and found this year old artcile where a Kotaku writer feels so stupidly about Nintendo not having achievements. "ARE THEY TOO GOOD FOR ACHIEVEMENTS??" Yes Zack, they are. For all I can criticize about nintendo, they actually design their games.
I just randomly remembered Street Fighter 6's Alex incest subplot and cackled.
22. Super Mario Sunshine is a sentient game. For those it deems unworthy, it becomes a glitchy mess with annoying missions. But for those with pure souls, who honor Nintendo in their hearts, it's a blast.
It's basically impossible to not know who ModRetro is if you're doing business with them or writing a story about them, which is why at this point my default assumption for any entity that chooses to work with them is that they're doing so BECAUSE of culture war bs to at least some degree.
I don’t care what your pedigree is: five seconds worth of research would tell you that the company you’re choosing to partner with is owned and run by war profiteers.
Thinking about this again and reflecting on how Myst was the first big "hardcore vs casual" discourse magnet that I can remember, which I'm sure is a contributor to its lack of modern mindshare. The Riven strategy guide even opened with some rather defensive commentary about it.
i think one of the biggest underlinings in just how bad the western industry has been about its own legacy is like. myst isnt just an old game. it was final fantasy vii before final fantasy vii. it was that fucking huge.
Mulling over Tokon discourse, specifically oldheads irked that FG controls are steering away from motion inputs but utilizing more buttons, not reducing complexity--just changing things. My hot take is that I don't mind this because I believe games should be designed around their primary controller
Agreed, sure, but I'd also like to be able to critique poorly written kids' media without being shouted down by adults who decided to make said media their whole personality.
please never be a person who says "oh it's just for kids, they won't care" when referring to something badly produced or written
I've often thought back to how many release week streams of Cyberpunk 2077 showcased straight-up dong in the character creator. On one hand, I thought it was cool that nobody was making a big deal of it. On the other hand, I knew *exactly* what the reaction would be if it had been a Japanese game.
It really is mental that some folks are so dedicated in 'never admitting that nerd grievance crap' came from legit problems that they'll just brush a decades of racism under the rug.
between sf6 and tokon it feels like the end state of the modern fighting game is an easy to input but ridiculous knowledge check resource-intensive management games with specifically designed power spikes. just make a moba guys.
love how y'all just keep jumpscaring me with the most tepid fascist takes literally plucked from x twitter every time i try to read my timeline yes please, give the fascists more airtime and a podium on an entirely different site, it's not like i quit twitter for a fucking reason
the olds and the kids all being on the same website has not prevented the olds from becoming cringe but it has prevented the kids from being cool... now that's justice...
I'm going to stop using games' sub titles. I don't have time for that shit anymore Zelda: A Link to the Past? it's zelda 3 Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker? no, Metal Gear 7 Super Mario Sunshine? wrong, mario 65
We had a good 6-12 months of recomps until AI killed those too. Good work everyone.
There are a lot of reasons to be aggravated by all of the AI slop infesting retro game spaces (recomp hackjobs, MiSTer slopcores), but one thing that really bothers me is that I feel like there's a legitimate artistry to video game programming, and this crap just has absolutely no respect for it.
What do they need the extra month for? To patch in a missing in-game command list?
