ICE has now spent over $2.2 BILLION on purchasing 4 private prisons from CoreCivic, with the company banking half a billion dollars on the most recent sale. Of course, ICE will not actually operate these facilities; CoreCivic keeps the contracts to run these places for the foreseeable future.

Did you see how Apple, Amazon Walmart and other big companies are refunding the billions of dollars they got back from the federal tariff settlement to their customers, who ultimately bore the cost of higher prices? Yea, me neither.
What gets me is that AIPAC is going to turn around & spend on the Republican in the MI Senate race while centrist Dems malign Abdul as a non-Democrat. But it’s fine & party line to support people funded in millions by donors entirely agnostic to their party & only concerned with a foreign country.

Even with my (relative) awareness and involvement in prison abolition and improving conditions for incarcerated people, I wasn't aware until this post that prisons are exempt from the ACA. Not surprised, but damn. (This is why independent journalism is important, follow The Xylom)

Since the federal Affordable Care Act protections do not apply to prisons, incarcerated people are not guaranteed regular checkups, prescriptions, or access to doctors.
