I had a psychiatrist I'd just met tell me that Bill Clinton's thought process was, according to him, just "p***y, p***y, p***y." I think he thought he was bonding with a fellow straight guy. Oops. I also had a therapist (whose website said she handled queer patients) ask me what Grindr was.

A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

Verity! came along and offered a voice to a huge cohort of fans who had been vastly underrepresented in the Doctor Who podcasting community and tapped into something truly special. Deb, Erika, Tansy, Kat, Lynne, and Liz truly did something special and did it with style. Vale, Verity.

Endings are always a little sad but I couldn’t be more proud of the work we did (and the fun we had!) Thanks @hollygodarkly.wandering.shop.ap.brid.gy @xanister.bsky.social @lizbethmyles.bsky.social @lynnemthomas.com and @tansyrr.bsky.social. You made @veritypodcast.bsky.social something special.

My take is that Emily Wilson has the problem many people do. She cannot stop reacting to the version of the movie she would have made instead of the version someone else made. She is a great translator. She's not a very good film critic.

A lot of columnists have lost their minds in recent years because social media has allowed people to talk back to them, whereas before they could say any old vile shit with next to no pushback

One of the worst things about the Senate’s attempted Fauci show trial is how the supposed evidence against him is early in COVID he considered multiple hypotheses, then increasingly ruled some unlikely as evidence came in. The objection is he did science. Fundamentally that is what’s under attack.

We recorded an incredibly fun This Had Oscar Buzz / Prestige Junkie crossover this week, teaming up with @kateyrich.bsky.social and Chris Rosen for the Who's Next Draft. Which thus-far un-Oscar'd actor or actress is best positioned to win an Oscar in the next few years?

Katey Rich, Chris Feil, Chris Rosen, Joe Reid. Katey refused to wear glasses to complete the look.

Cool that so many lifelong Republicans think they can just start giving advice to people whose values they’ve always hated, and continue to hate. They stroll in and act like they’re the instant boss. And too many Democrats love that shit!

The author of the piece -- Mona Charen -- is an anti-Trump *conservative* who worked for both Nancy and Ronald Reagan and has never won an election. Also, she was "anti-Trump" in 2016 bit didn't support Clinton. Democrats & even centrists can -- and should -- read everything she says in that light.

It’s clear from the piece that the author just disagrees with higher taxes on the wealthy and a more generous social safety net. As usual, the electoral argument is a lie. If these people really cared about electing Dems they would be emphasizing how moderate and mainstream the DSA politicians are

There's an interesting take on The Odyssey that I have now heard twice in one day (from Mary Beard and Charlotte Higgins on the one hand and @rilaws.bsky.social on the other) that both makes sense of the opening title card and ties it more fully into the source text. I now support this theory.
