While world leaders are hell bent on ‘saving the kids’ by enabling mass censorship & surveillance measures like ID checks or kicking teens off of social media, we seldom hear what kids have to say about it, even though many of them are doing incredible things for accountability movements.

Ironically, France's government did a study several years ago that found there was no safe or technically feasible way to mandate online age verification without massively expanding surveillance and eviscerating online privacy. They decided to do it anyway.

Even to the extent that some platforms are pre-complying or rolling out age verification and ID checks in response to political pressure "well I just won't use it" is not a helpful response. Many, many people do not have that choice. They depend on certain platforms for community, work, etc.
Gently, this is the most unhelpful reaction to these types of laws. It pretends that we actually a choice and that we can just "find a different website." But when online ID checks are government mandated, we literally can't. We have to fight collectively. We can't just individually "opt out"
