I'm open-minded about John Healey as Chancellor, especially if it means more defence spending *as well as* an increase in welfare spending
Funding Healey’s defence plan, social care reform and cost of living action while also keeping the fiscal rules is going to mean hefty tax rises.
The only thing I can think is that Mahmood - and the presumed continuance of policies she's executed - is a flanking manoeuvre against Reform? Doesn't bode well for those concerned over Starmer's immigration policies and rhetoric, whatever the reason

The Odyssey was pretty great, lads, but not as great as i wanted it to be. Nolan made it a moral tale, which is a hilarious choice for a world where fate, not human choice, governs action on earth. But i do understand why he wants to moralize at this moment in history.

This is a blatantly unconstitutional threat. The executive branch has zero constitutional power to tell states how to run their elections - zero. Nor does DHS have the constitutional power to threaten state and local officials with jail time if they fail to abide by the executive branch’s demands.

It can simultaneously be true that the claims are a tired/incoherent rehash, AND it was newsworthy because he said he’s sending the administration in to “work with” states that got hacked. That’s basically announcing interference, or am I missing something?

Doing away with mail-in voting would be a disaster for rural states like Montana where people have to drive fifty miles to a polling place

There is no way that "278,000 noncitizens" are voting in US elections, as Trump claims in his speech. Its just not physically possible, as WIRED and other outlets have consistently reported. This is a scare tactic, and it's working. And the repercussions are endless:

stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.
Alex Aronson@alexaronson.bsky.social · 2mo agoAmy Coney Barrett just told Congress that it would be inappropriate to explain the reasoning behind the Court’s unreasoned shadow docket orders. As if unreasoned judicial orders are a thing. They are not. The reasoning is the whole point.
