My entire life I’ve never called it the FIFA World Cup. I’ve always called it the World Cup. Fans don’t give a shit about FIFA. If national teams showed up for a World Cup tournament not held by FIFA we would all watch it. World Cup is the brand. FIFA is nothing.

I live in a small town in NE Scotland close to where chunks of the #Odyssey was filmed. Nolan’s cast and crew were all lovely and spent money like water in our hard-up area. He even made sure our tiny cinemas got on-time release of it when we normally have to wait for big movies. Thanks Chris.

The polar opposite reactions here to the deaths of Sam Neill and Lindsey Graham are such a reminder that we all have a choice whether to live our lives in a way that brings joy or misery to those around us. I think if you’re remembered fondly as Sam Neill is today, you’ve pretty much won at life.
i will say lindsey graham being asked by a reporter how mitch mcconnell is doing, answering “i don’t know, i’m going to check right now” and then dying is hilarious

The idea that we shouldn’t speak ill of the dead seems ridiculous to me. What more important time is there to set the public memory of the good or bad a person has put into the world than when they die. It’s the gift we give to those we loved, and the bill due for those who made others miserable.
It doesn't work both ways either; when Corbyn dies we won't get Gyles Brandreth going 'we didn't agree on many things but he was a laugh all the same'. Instead it'll be all 'he was a divisive figure etc.'
Phil McDuff@mcduff.bsky.social · 4w agoThis is one of the most common elisions you will see in the media bubble: Widdicombe was not just someone with unsavoury views, she was also someone with the power to change society to more closely align with those views, at the expense of other people. And she did this for her whole career.
This promotional PSYCHO pre-release marketing photo (designed to satisfy demand and mislead from the film’s actual plot) always makes me smile.
