Yeah, if you are in the US at present, I think only Canadians would know what “UE” means. Especially in regions where the Loyalists (a good chunk of the American colonists) settled after the War of Independence. It was like a huge brain drain.

Blueberry grunt is literally a stovetop cobbler. It’s not difficult to make, and it’s ridiculously delicious and satisfying with a scoop of ice cream. How anyone wouldn’t like it is beyond me. Granted, it’s no peach melba or apple charlotte, but still.

Thanks for sharing your UEL family history! (I did a paper on the UELs and their migration to the Maritimes and Ontario. 😅) I can’t imagine anyone turning their noses at blueberry grunt though! Or even butter tarts! Do you use the post-nominal UE after your name? Because you are entitled to it.

Blueberry grunt is one of my favorite maritime dishes and most of my family turn up their nose at it. It tastes good and it gives me a chance to talk about my loyalist ancestors who moved to Guysborough county. It’s been passed down in my family since the 17th century.
