I hate the way capitalism & consumerism has infected our relationships. Not just romantic. Everyone wants the most from you while giving the least and/or everyone wants to collect you & put you on a shelf just to say they have you without engaging with you beyond a quick maintenance check

debut small pro beat set tonight in fishtown (he's previously dj'd for me, small professor), 26 beats to set off '26: an ode to q-tip doing weird stuff on "midnight marauders", DOOM's tv show dialogue sample style on "operation doomsday", and madlib's "the beat konducta 1-2: movie scenes" in spirit

I think another person who can’t be overlooked is Schoolly D out of Philly. Supposed “gangsta rap” has origins with Spoonie Gee x Schoolly D x Just-Ice x KRS One x Ice T before King T, Mixmaster Spade & Compton Posse all influenced the formation of N.W.A. around Eazy-E’s “Boyz N Tha Hood”

If you asked for a Top 5 early emcees that are influential to the style evolutions of modern Rap? I might go with Grandmaster Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee, Rakim & Kool G Rap. Honorable mentions: Kool Keith, KRS One & Big Daddy Kane. Also receiving votes: Spoonie Gee, Just-Ice & King Sun
