Him Over There, Now Over Here

I always feel somewhat aggrieved when people say "oh, everyone knows that" and I have to admit that I don't know it because it makes me feel like an uneducated and ignorant oaf. (Yes, I admit, I'm an idiot who didn't know anything about the Ship Of Theseus until watching this week's Only Connect.)

There a million things wrong with the EHRC guidance, as you all know, but for me the weirdest thing about it all is that its authors don't even seem to be aware of the possibility that someone asked to leave a "single sex" facility might refuse.

This is actually a pretty good take. And I can think of one straight off the bat which perfectly meets the criteria and is a pretty good representation of their work: Bucks Fizz - "Greatest Hits" 12 tracks, all singles up to album release, including their magnum opus "Rules Of The Game"

The cover of the album "Greatest Hits" by Bucks Fizz. The cover shows Cheryl Baker, Bobby G, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston in a 2x2 photo arrangement, and there is a competition announcement on the cover where the winner can win either a Mini Sprite or a day in Paris with the group. The track listing of "Greatest Hits" by Bucks Fizz.

A musical hot take: A Best Of or Greatest Hits should not be more than 12 songs. Double discs, an absolute no, unless you are honest and call it a collection or folio or something

Very happy to see I'm not the only one. I know that if I went on it I'd be far too busy concentrating on making the answers grammatically and temporally correct (eg "who WAS Alexander Graham Bell", "what WERE the Hanging Gardens Of Babylon), probably at the expense of the actual correct answer.

Feels like a good day to say out loud: as a lifelong trivia lover (Scholastic Bowl, pub quiz, etc.) I don’t like Jeopardy. The format is annoying AF. The “questions” do not grammatically or factually match the “answers,” so it’s just a tic of saying “what is” to start and it annoys me to no end.

Once again for those at the back: ‘Don’t speak ill of the dead’ is about your great aunt Elsie, who liked a long gin with a short tonic at elevenses, and blew your inheritance money betting on the horses. Speaking ill of absolute monsters is a moral obligation, actually.

It's that time of year again - time to cast your votes in the Noisebox Anthems poll! Al the tracks are pretty representative of what you'll hear on Noisebox every day, so pick your favourites and get your voice heard! (and you don't even need to use pens or pencils, it's a handy form!)

Noisebox Anthems IV is live! Here's a selection of the sort of stuff we play every day on @noiseboxradio.com but we want to know which you like most. I'll count down the top 50 live on Monday 31st August like I'm one of those Bruno Brookeses they used to have. noiseboxradio.com/anthems/

Having shown this link to friends of ours who, shall we say, are an active part of the scene*, their comment was an indifferent "huh, seems pretty tame really". (*no judgement from me, and I'll take none from any of you either. They're my friends, and they're adults, and consenting ones at that)

Any time I see a noteworthy house listing, oh has @oldenoughtosay.com seen it yet? "Extensive entertainment facilities" indeed. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/9...
