For all of the same reasons that someone with a history of embezzlement shouldn't be made an org's treasurer. You are free to become a better person and grow from your past! But you are not entitled to any positions of power over others. For Some Odd Reason™ white people really struggle with this.

Two things are true, imo. Comics journalism lacks the resources for adequate coverage of most things and also so so so many people in comics, from readers to creators to journalists, are extremely racist and simply default to pretending Black people don't exist in the scene.
