Like I get trans women are women and all but I cannot stress how much this has never been about who is and isn't a "real woman". It's never been who is and isn't a woman. It's always been about control and trans women are the current visible edge case.

Every so often I feel like bringing up, in the first chapter of Female Masculinity, Halberstam talks about butches being harassed in women's restrooms way back in the 90s and notes, correctly, if people REALLY believed these butches were men, they would not be harassing them like this.

When I say this actually kinda bog standard misogyny that is aimed at trans men a lot, I get yelled at for a) identifying men as being subject to misogyny and b) suggesting that women and femmes can perpetuate misogyny on men

Quick question: do you think gay men experience marginalization? If so, would you say that oppression has to do with their manhood? That perhaps they experience the 'intersection' of their gender and their sexual desires in the social context which expects gender to relate to sexual desire?

You're minimizing your own suffering by refusing to acknowledge oppression faced by trans people who experience a specific, unique combination of misogyny, androsexism and transmisia that is deeply historically embedded in our systems of oppression and marginalization. I recommend bell hooks.

If I point out that transphobia and misogyny focused on trans men, mascs and nb people afab are "deep historic and systematic oppression", and we are simply naming that real systematic oppression...

My naivete made me think that the masculinity crisis was only real if youre a misogynist dude but like it turns out cis women genuinely also uphold really fucked up beliefs about masculinity or just maleness in general

Our insistence on fighting and deconstructing the binary is not an abstract political choice based on what we speculate would be the most #radical. It is as much a choice made out of trans survival as any binary trans pursuit of acceptance and social recognition.

I find it useful to use a spider's web bc it also has intersections and when she plucks one part of it, the other parts respond it's more delicate and so more fitting than the street analogy

Trans women have it harder because they are not supported by a functioning form of feminist theory that has the same power to crush and attack that cis TERF’s have. Trans women have it harder not because they are women but because they are women who LACK ORGANIZED POWER.

In the US it seems like the real gap in trans opportunity and safety is racial not gendered. White trans people have better outcomes over-all with minor fluctuations between genders, while TPoC, especially Black people, receive the brunt of the violence.

As a white trans, there are privileges given that black trans people do not have. That is usually conversational power, the ability to control the narrative and the state of the words used. They decide what is too much, what is too little, and what can or can’t be said.

Gender oppression remains theorized as only about men and women, and it just so happens that some of those men and women are trans, but transness is secondary to being a man or a woman, the Real focus of gender and patriarchy.

If you treat being a man or woman as the real gender category and transness as a separate "intersecting" category, you get to maintain the cissexist feminist model of gender oppression and never meaningfully have to challenge the binary.
