Iowan living in Germany #Eisern At the bottom of a well. Living with OCD.

I made some scotcharoos today for the 5 teenagers now staying here. The scotch chips the kiddo visiting from the US brought, and the Rice Crispies from my trip to UK last summer. I was shocked at how fresh they still were when I broke the seal on the bag. I had a bowl in celebration.

Teen BFF of the eldest is coming today. These young men have never been good at coordinating or planning when it comes to doing things together. "What is his flight number?" "IDK" "Well, what terminal?" "IDK" "What time?" "Like 11 something." "11 what? What did he say?" "He said 11 something."

If you are an expert on air quality and have 10-15 minutes to talk to me today or tomorrow about important things journalists should know while reporting on wildfires and smoke, my DMs are open, or you can email me at karen at OpenNews dot org.

My kid's history teacher told the class that ICE hasn't killed anyone. She is an American. We had a kiddo overnight and they asked me if it was true and I told them the truth. 🤷‍♀️ Its a teeny school so im sure it will get around that ******'s mom says this and that. I don't care.

Multiple people were killed and at least two others were injured earlier today in yet another senseless mass shooting, this time at an In-N-Out in Twin Falls, Idaho. America’s gun violence crisis is out of control. We need immediate action now.

Shooting at In-and-Out Burger in Idaho Leaves at Least 3 Dead and 2 Injured, Official Says

A spokesman for Twin Falls cautioned that the number of victims was “expected to be higher.” The police said the shooter was dead.

~10,000 people died from the heat in Germany this summer, and nobody does a damn thing because the majority of them are elderly women. "Elderly women live longer." So the fuck what? We shouldn't try to protect them? I'm so so so sick of women being tossed aside. www.dw.com/en/more-wome...

More women die in heatwaves, but biology 'isn't main cause'

In country after country, more women are dying from the heat than men. But researchers say biology isn't the main reason. Age, working conditions, and unequal access to rest may drive the gap.

I did tpo many things today. I made chocolate chip cookie bars, I made dough for the pizza tonight, and I watered my tomatoes. 1) it's too damn hot and humid 2) the oral chemo toxicity still has my brain fucked up. 3) 4 teens in the house because theres a sleepover.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

It's just kinda funny how Dems do in fact have deep, consistent rural strongholds. All over the US! And even most Professional Rural Understanders I've run into just... can't see them. Or figure out how to work with them and build on them. For some reason haha it's so crazy

Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!

It's so hot and dry here that the corn in the field behind our house has the leaves not only stretching to the sky in thirst, but curled up and dying, the ears drooping and dropping from the stalk. There's no significant rain in the forecast.
