Let us all take a moment to stand and applaud @soundingline.bsky.social Paladin Trilogy and the fantastic (and correct) book layout. A fine map (arguably the most important piece of any novel) and then the subtle chapter pages with the misty callback to the cover art. The world is richer for it.

"Birth of the Homunculus" A sorceress astounded by her creation. This painting has been floating around in my head for months now, and I only found the right time to bring it to fruition yesterday! (see thread for details + process shot-by-shot)

A sorceress astounded by her freshly sculpted homunculus. A single shaft of light illuminates her creation. Bounce lighting reflects upon the sorceress. The homunculus has a flaccid butt. The maker's hands are covered in fresh clay. They are the only body parts of the sorceress that are directly lit. Faint, residual purple smoke wisps from her fingertips: the homunculus stands in an awkward pose, that of a creature freshly adjusting to its body. The homunculus has thin limbs and a hefty torso, though it is faced against the viewer. The sorceress's workshop is littered in sculpting tools, brushes, an open tome of transmutation, ceramic bowls and a pitcher of dirty clay water in which lie a few of these tools. Clay shavings are scattered about the floor. A red, runic circle surrounds the humonculus. In the dark background it is possible to catch a few failed prototypes on a shelf.

Wildlife tracking! I'm reposting things I made this past year. If you look closely at the deer tracks you'll see I added the hint that they're double registering (hind foot is stepping into the same spot as front foot).

In panel 2, the text says "An American Red Squirrel came by," and the leap marks of a red squirrel are in the snow. In panel 3, the text says "A Snowshoe Hare passed through," and there are the distinctive fluffy-footed marks from a snowshoe hare jumping across the snow. n panel 4, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare found a sword," and one of the front paw marks in the track has been replaced with a long thin line running alongside the track. In panel 5, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare is dual wielding," and both front paw marks have been replaced with long thin lines. In panel 6, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare tamed a mount, vastly increasing its jumping distance. You should run," and the Snowshoe Hare trail runs into a deer track and disappears.
