I think one of the most important skills a person can learn nowadays is recognizing when they are making up a person in their head to get mad at and how they can step back from that and ground themselves. No shade. It's an extremely easy behavior to fall into and it will erode you.

Star Wars was inspired by old Flash Gordon serials, Star Trek was pitched as 'Wagon Train to the Stars', the Wachowski's anime inspo is all over the Matrix... People who make media are usually inspired by media- often from their youth. There's nothing uniquely millennial (or 'cringe') about that.
