Can we be honest that so called 'wokeness' meant Black people demanding full social personhood and refusing to be silent about getting murdered/harmed by the state? So yes, that is more threatening to many in this country than is fascism. I think that's been clear.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social · 6h ago

If you only read the opinion journalism in elite media over the last decade, you would have been convinced that wokeness, not fascism, was the greatest threats to American society. Now some of those authors are retconning by trying to relabel fascism as "the woke right." bsky.app/profile/donm...

i pledge my sword to the politician who just says: let’s leave trans people alone, i don’t know or care what a hasan piker is, and i condemn the genocide in gaza. stop hiring consultants that make you say weird stuff that nobody likes.

it literally could not be easier to run against an opponent who is fixated on a microscopic minority that isn’t actually harming anyone! focusing on imaginary threats posed by trans people instead of the world burning down around us is bad politics! point that out! loudly!

"My opponent wants to hire creeps to inspect your daughter's genitals if she wants to play soccer. I wouldn't trust him or any hired weirdo from his pedophile-protecting party alone in a room with any kid." Go on the offensive, you cowards! It's not that hard!

When colonization came to call in the US, many folks wrote about america as a pristine Eden whose forest were filled with delights and bounty. This was because indigenous folk (Like mine) built up food forest. Things that were razed and destroyed as a part of racist violence. Colonization is ongoing

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. what a fantastic all-timer thread on this phenomena and the psychology behind it I think about this all the time and not understanding this is the difference between successful liminal horror, and just horrorslop. liminal horror is about the baked-in hostility of public spaces we millenials saw die

Pookleblinky@pookleblinky.bsky.social · 3mo ago

The reason young people vibe with liminal horror is that the wealthy have spent the last half century destroying all anthropological spaces they can exist in, leaving *only* non-places en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-place

But if you're choosing a school because it will demonstrate your bona fides as a social reformer or political advocate, that's ok, but it's not very sturdy grounds on which to stand while weathering headwinds, criticism, or challenges. B/c it's overtly about you and society more than the kid.
