Here's a figure from a survey question I ran with @stecula.bsky.social and Alex Rivard last year. We asked people how home prices in their metro area compared to the national average and then binned those respondents into actual housing price quintiles.
Kind of a funny bit in r/Sacramento where a post praises the NYC rent freeze only for someone to point out the rent peaked in 2022 and has dropped every year since. The status quo in Sacramento is literally better than a rent freeze! Rents down almost double digits in real terms!
