1/14 A brief break from #TheHormuzCrisis. I've never really explained why the phrase "put the Navy in the Channel" to stop #SmallBoat crossings isn't, in itself, a serious maritime strategy. It sounds decisive. From a maritime perspective though, it raises far more questions than it answers.

The Barnacle Goose winters in the UK, but for centuries their breeding grounds in Svalbard lay undiscovered. The accepted view was that they spawned from barnacles (hence the name) and therefore were classified as fish. This meant catholics could eat them on Fridays. Some still do. #birdfacts

On this day 15 years ago, far-right terrorist Anders Behring Breivik murdered 77 people in Oslo and Utøya. Seen back then as extreme, people like him are in parliaments & governments all over the world. Today, I will remember those who died. In their memory, I say: No pasarán. Not now. Not ever.
