"Corridor zoning" amounts to jamming low-income residents into big, bland apartment buildings alongside stroads, where they can serve as a buffer, absorbing all the noise & air pollution cars produce, protecting the precious single-family homes that dominate everywhere around them. It's abominable.

I love the days around the solstice. I can't believe we beat winter for good. The sun is going to set at 9:00pm forever and the leaves are always going to be full and green and there will never be ice ever again.

keep in mind that these transportation reauthorization bills dictate policy and funding at the federal level for the next 5-6 years at a minimum. so if the BUILD America 250 act passes, we’re stuck with it even if we elect a better congress this year and a better president in 2028.

Not to rub salt on the wound but this is a tiktok post from one of the Metra board members that Brandon Johnson just re-nominated. Just pure left-NIMBYism So I am not expecting much upzoning or TOD effort from Metra anytime soon (unless it’s 100% affordable and therefore unsustainable)

This use of "feasible" by traffic engineers drives me insane. Renovating your kitchen for $1k is not feasible. Building a bicycle-powered helicopter is not feasible. Deciding that safety is more important than delay is not a matter of feasibility, but a policy choice.

i find any conversation about “college educated” voters interesting because i think there’s an implication there that doesn’t align with reality. a college education used to mean stable, well paying work—but for a long time now, that hasn’t been the case for so many people.
