There is no safe level of silica dust and coal for miners. The only way to end black lung is to end coal mining. The government is killing people to prop up a dying business. Despite voting for Republicans, people in Appalachia are being killed by their policies.

Appalachia's black lung rates highest in nearly 50 years as miners' protections stall

Rates are now as bad as the 1970s, with thousands of miners sick and dying. Mining experts blame toxic silica dust, now more common in mines.

Sinister! A lot of NYPD resent Summer Streets for sulky culture war reasons (hatred of cyclists, car hog mentality, see healthy use of public space as “liberal”) and are trying to ruin it with costly security overkill. @mayor.nyc.gov needs to stop this shit cold even if it costs him

Summer Streets attendees were stunned by the sheer number of police and their vehicles clogging many intersections — in what one cop called "overkill."

The Republicans need to clue in quickly on this issue, because otherwise we might just move these programs down to the state level to protect our schools, health, and transit. We fund the government. They will lose this bluff.

Vogels don't fly in the sky, pajaros do. But those two mean the same thing in two different languages. Sounds stupid, right? That's how it sounds when people say we are not a democracy; we are a republic. Two different languages, but they mean the same thing.

...life in a combat zone, where the contrasts are striking. Every frame highlights just how difficult life is in Ukrainian cities within the combat zone today. You will see the consequences of war through the eyes of those who have found themselves at the epicenter of events.

Most of the corruption perpetrated by the Trump admin would not be possible without the complicit enabling of the Republican majorities in the House and Senate. The only way to put any check and balance on this out of control regime is to vote them out in November.

America’s obsession with stopping Iran from having a nuclear weapon was always Israel’s paranoia “tail,” wagging the US “dog.” For a long time, the balance of power in the Middle East sat between Iraq & Iran military powers, & Saudi Arabia controlling oil markets via OPEC. It was tense but stable.

The Spokane fires are terrifying. Citys burning down is horrifying. I so sorry to everyone affected. After the fire behind my place a few weeks ago I feel for every single person and animal in its path. Its been an ever present worry the past few years, every fire season. 😭😭😭🫂🫂🫂💔💔💔

Here is the Autumn Lane fire north of Spokane Washington yesterday afternoon, seen from the prodigious queue of cars evacuating the Indian Trail neighborhood. After we passed, it grew much larger and overran the road.

🇵🇱🇺🇦 Another brutal attack in Gdynia in the middle of the day. Ukrainian woman was returning home from work and had just stopped and spoken Ukrainian when a man ran up from behind, hitting her twice on the head with an unknown object — now the victim has a broken head and needs stitches.

Every nation’s independence starts with people demanding the right to shape their own future. Today, I joined thousands of Ecuadorian New Yorkers in Queens for the largest Ecuadorian parade in the United States, celebrating 217 years since Ecuador’s First Cry of Independence.

The reason the DSA folks seem to get so much attention is that they tend to talk about stuff like why your rent is high or why the bus is never on time. Voters by and large don’t really care about “democracy” because a lot of them have not gotten much out of democracy www.npr.org/2026/07/29/n...

To win over working-class voters, Democrats need to stop talking about democracy

Working-class voters have moved away from the Democratic Party. Winning them back is key to the party's future, a new reports shows. But first, the messaging has to change.
