The cat is officially out of the bag. I promised a consequential first, here it is! On (or around) October 6th, for the first time in its 20+ year history, the SPC Mesoanalysis will be available to the field in real time via NCEP NOMADS. Oh, and it’s in NetCDF, not GRIB.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone this week at the @ametsoc.org Madison Summit! Stop by the poster session tomorrow to talk to our program manager and front end developer. Be sure to bookmark wisconet.wisc.edu as your one-stop-shop for Wisconsin weather information while you’re in town!

Alright Madison folks. Two places you need to check out for drinks this week. State Line Distillery The Robin Room Probably going to hit up State Line tonight and enjoy a lovely gin old fashion.

Conference travel is always a little amusing to me. Like, if a single plane went down, the weather enterprise loses a major chunk of experience and expertise lol.

Really excited to get to go back to Madison next week for the AMS Summit! Not only is it one of my favorite places in the world, but the folks at SPC have a lot of great work being showcased. Going to highlight some talks people may find interesting and should attend!

Internal practice talks before a big conference have become a highlight for me. I love getting to see the hard work and awesome stuff my colleagues are doing. I am privileged to work with some really intelligent and capable people!

Been looking into adding GR placefile support into Heimdall. It mostly works. The catch is, the only (public) provider that has the proper CORS headers set is IEM. Everyone else (including experimental NSSL PHI tool) doesn’t have CORS set in a way the browser can access across origins.

SPC Convective Outlooks and the individual hazard probabilities are now available in Heimdall, along with SPC Storm Reports. As with all new features, retrieving archive data is fully supported. Various plot styling options are available in the layer settings menu. heimdall.stormscale.io

Kimchi fried rice tonight with marinated beef. Got the kimchi from a local Korean restaurant (Wing It), and made a sauce out of kimchi brine, buldakk sauce, and momofuku chili crisp. It’s good, folks.

As the one who introduced the highlights on Day 5 and the Enhanced on Day 2, I think you are spot on. Temperatures are much lower than even the coolest models suggested and thus instability is, too. Suspect reduced insolation is a big contributor here.

I dread having to do fire weather on evening shifts. It’s the last 2 hours of a 10 hour shift and fire weather isn’t my expertise. However, blaring all of Lincoln Park — Meteora during the process is the perfect amount of energy and catharsis for getting through it.
