I find it so weird - not surprising so much as maddening and unsettling - that mentioning COVID-19 or the pandemic is considered such an intense marketing faux pas

HELLO this is a note that the agent scammers have reached me, so watch out for anyone claiming to be a CAA agent emailing from a Gmail account and especially if they’re emailing you as though you wrote a manuscript that’s actually by your friend

good afternoon I am at 52%, I worked through a very challenging section at lunch and (I hope) will work through this last very big challenging section later today before sending it off (the remaining work after this is medium-challenging or easy-but-time-consuming - the long tail)

No donations for 3 days (the last from a very kind monthly supporter). Let's not forget Adham, though that is what Bluesky wants you to do, as it does for every Palestinian its admins delete repeatedly until they're too exhausted to return.
Adham is raising funds to escape via the Rafah crossing. The costs are $15k /person. 'I know this amount is enormous, & I am not asking anyone to carry this burden alone...We have escaped death countless times. I do not want to reach the end alone. Please...Do not leave us. Even one dollar.'
You can help the Jamil family survive Israel's genocide by sharing & donating. They have 5 children they're struggling to feed, the father has a shrapnel injury & the mother has heart problems and severe shoulder inflammation. They urgently need help to get treatment & food:

as someone writing a Gawain that WILL piss people off (I know because I have seen them posting in spaces where I hang out) I am really appreciating all the talk on epics and adaptations today
If we were not passionate about the history of the world's myths and stories, if we did not see our own lives entwined and tangled with them, if we did not have strong opinions...it would be a lot of dry and crumbling work. No one would know these stories for what they are. Big entertainment.
In truth, if you're not going to piss anyone off, you probably don't have enough passion to do a translation or adaptation of said famous epic. it's totally normal & appropriate to feel passionately about other people's versions of an epic. It's part of the tradition to shout about epics in public.
Thing about working with famous epics is that they're famous epics for a reason. Tons of people have had opinions about them for millennia. If you're going to work with one, you know your version is going to piss some people off. Even a *sedate* famous epic inflames some of its audience.
You don't actually have to be faithful to the source material. Like, ever. The source material can be turned and twisted and you can see how light reflects off it and bounces if you do this or that, and that gives us a better, richer, more lively understanding of the source material.
this is genuinely my greatest fear about writing historical fiction. I'll spend a bunch of time researching, do my best, and some fucking chicken expert will be like "chickens are wrong"
This is the best film complaint I’ve ever seen
HELP I JUST ACCIDENTALLY CLICKED THE CANVA "shuffle brand palette" BUTTON AND THEN "APPLY TO ALL PAGES" IN A DECK LIKE 80 SLIDES LONG LMAOOOOO they're all SO UGLY NOWWW
