Joey Politano🏳️🌈@josephpolitano.bsky.social · 3w agoKansas City's streetcar is also seeing a major ridership boom in the wake of the new extensions to UMKC and the riverfront Ridership has more than quadrupled over the last year, and the system now has more passengers than the Sacramento or Charlotte light rail systems!

Oh The Urbanity!@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social · 2mo agoSpecifically, it’s legal with a meal/picnic. What exactly counts as a meal is up to interpretation. But from what I’ve seen, you won’t be bothered unless you cause a disturbance. Many other parts of Quebec have similar rules.

@wmatagm.bsky.social @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social why is phase 1B of the gold line east to Benning rather than west to Mt Vernon square or gallery place? Benning rd has a metro to the RFK area, and extending east requires a detour to get close to the stadium. Going west gets yellow/green transfers
How are people misreading Sleeping Beauty this badly? Three good fairies (women) battle Maleficent (woman) over the fate of Aurora. The men are helpless side characters who fret about Aurora and Prince Philip plays a minor role with hand-holding by the fairies every step of the way.

The question was asked in the context of the proposal to upzone more parts of D.C., some of which would allow more by-right construction to happen. The D.C. Office of Planning has proposed more upzoning in Ward 3.

That said, it is notable that the D.C. Council voted unanimously for the One Front Door Act today, which would legalize point-access blocks up to six stories here!

Of nerdy urbanist interest: Next week the D.C. Council will cast a first vote on @brianneknadeau.bsky.social's bill to allow for new D.C. buildings up to six stories tall to have only a single stairwell in them, instead of the current two. Proponents say it creates more residential space.

Interested Milwaukee Citizen@citizenmke.bsky.social · 5mo agoIt shows how bad diesel pulled trains are compared to EMUs that the VRE schedules 37 minutes to get from F-S to US, but WMATA schedules 36 minutes to get from F-S to Metro Center. It should be so much faster! Subway Builder says it could be done in 24 minutes, which feels believable

Ideal here: MARC wants to extend to Delaware. SEPTA needs a yard in Delaware so that it doesn't have to deadhead trains from Philly. Buy the same equipment. Build a new shared facility in Delaware that can handle regular maintenance, have an agreement where SEPTA does heavy maintenance in Philly.
