I recommend this article about AI reasoning, where the author lets us in on his struggles w/ AI cognitive dissonance. Plus some priceless quotes from @rao2z.bsky.social. (My recommendation has *nothing* to do with the fact that I'm quoted in it too 😇) www.quantamagazine.org/is-ai-reason...

Friends! Do you know a lot of PhD-holding nerds?? I'm surveying people who came from abroad to complete a PhD in the US, after the Trump admin announced student visas will only cover 4 years and folks must then seek uncertain renewal from USCIS. Please share! www.porchpartynews.com/p/trump-rule...

Were you an international student who got an American PhD? Take our survey!

A new Trump rule forces foreign doctoral candidates to apply mid-degree for an uncertain visa extension. What will that mean for academia and society—and people’s lives?

I hope every day you all are trying to cultivate joy. A kindness to a neighbor. A long walk. Poetry. Birdwatching. Meditation. Being silly and playing peekaboo in a checkout line with a cute baby. These are dark times, and joy is something the bastards cannot take from us. Fight for it.

Recasting higher education as vocational training is some bullshit. The fact there aren't more jobs specifically calling for people who have studied humanities, social science, critical theory, etc, doesn't mean that there isn't work that benefits from those studies, esp. the work of being human.
