Hey remember when Nanowrimo said "sure why not" to allowing AI slop in their process and then immediately died after 20 years of operation oh, no reason, was just thinkin' about it

Y'all. So much of graphic design is just: "Is this readable?" If the text is an appropriate size, with adequate space, margins and contrast from the background, you're halfway there. After that, just please stop jamming so much stuff on one page. Let me breathe.
BTW ken jennings? Mormon. 10% of any money he gets goes straight into the pocket of the mormon church!! same as brandon sanderson, orson scott card, etc. He has no issues giving money to the NYT because he's already giving way more to the MORMON CHURCH, a deeply genocidal and bigoted church

if you're reading all these articles as they come out and assuming the story is "these models are escaping containment and causing danger" and not "this is a PR campaign by companies desperate to build hype" I think you are very silly.
It keeps happening... It'd be great if these companies could spend a little bit more time on network security and a little less time vibe coding.

EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect today so remember to be an absolute pain in the arse to any service provider who is trying to actively enforce it.
These soft as puppy doo doo types can't imagine that some of us never use AI for anything, nor do we need to! ha ha my brain works fine for all my purposes thanks
My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.
When the House Hippo first appeared on Canadian televisions, it seemed that everyone wanted one to appear in their homes. This commercial became a part of the Canadian cultural landscape and even today, the House Hippo is beloved by Canadians. 🧵 1/10

"It wasn't us, it was the AI agent(s). We are not responsible" We're going to hear this kind of bullshit a lot in the near future
Another instance of trans people being right and transphobes being wrong.

If are involved in social justice and you find yourself saying "I'm one of the biggest allies of X" after any sort of criticism, you need to consider you are high on your own supply and your brain is trying to give you an excuse to do no further work in self-reflection or solidarity.
A trans person pointing out that advertising for NYT's games after they've done so much transphobic fearmongering is not a good look for anyone who is supposedly a trans ally is not a "bad take", you are just showing a depressing inability to self-reflect and be an actual good ally. Frustrating!
Anyone who knows me even a little, or has even followed me long on social media, already knows this about me. Our institutions are literally trying to erase trans people right now, and it pisses me off. A snarky reply to one bad take on Bluesky doesn’t mean that’s changed at all. ⬇️
Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.
A new deal on balcony solar just dropped in the US

"I think people's idea of LLMs is that ... the factual truth must simply float to the top by likelihood alone. The thing is, some factual truths were never able to float to the top of anything, and that's before we even get into the power dynamics and so forth of certain areas of the truth."
Hank Green should not use LLMs in his work. Working scientists have specific use cases for LLMs, but science communicators like Hank and I do not. They add more vulnerability than value in our field. I laid out some history and background to walk you through the reasons why.
These AI companies have an "engagement no matter the cost" mandate for user engagement goals, and these deaths are the cost. That blood is directly on their hands, because they could shut down these AI apps and they don't, even after people die.

"Maria" is working in Coachella CA doing maintenance on the lemon trees. She wears thick gloves and sleeves to protect herself against the lemon thorns. She shares, "I will work any job to feed my children." Today Coachella temps are predicted to reach a high of 118°. #WeFeedYou
Or, to put it much more simply (h/t @davidwhodat.bsky.social): “Ally” is a verb.
A PSA to my fellow cis people who are (or want to believe they are) trans allies If you are getting pushback from trans people and your reaction is to be all “no! not me! I’m one of the good ones!” please remember that “being one of the good ones” is something you DO, not something you ARE
Maybe iNaturalist should have thought of that before they embraced that sweet sweet Google AI money over a year ago. They've been pretty quiet about what they did with that money since the outcry died down: www.scientificamerican.com/article/goog...

I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.
❤️ Gillian Green, publisher at Tor Bramble, told The Bookseller: “HM Wolfe has confirmed that Daggermouth was written entirely without AI. We stand behind our author, and we do not recognise third-party AI detection tools as a fair or reliable measure of authenticity when used on their own.”
