Digging deeper into the Middleton memories & remembering it wasn't just a green snakeskin jacket but red & varigated brown (cobra?) too. And a black one, cut longer like a sport coat. And red crepe-soled shoes with chunky white laces that looked like a grown-up version of something for a toddler.

Very sad news: Robin Middleton has died. An extraordinary architectural historian and awe-inspiring professor. RIP to one of the greats. Nice mini-obit by Barry Bergdoll here - yes, I remember the green snakeskin jacket! #architecture palladiomuseum.invionews.net/user/yhuiguu...

Juli 1919 in Turin

In Mary Sturgeon’s UNC grad course on Hellenistic architecture 🏛️, I wrote on the reception of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in Late Antiquity. So seeing this new vol. is exciting (& 50x better than my grad essay—especially love the Crusader Castle portions). We do love the reception of a wonder #OA

I took this photo on June 14, 2024, the day they finally connected the two sides of the Gordie Howe International Bridge in the middle. We just coincidentally were down there on that day!

My daytime photo of the center of the Gordie Howe bridge span, as seen from below,

Two huge V shaped cranes sit in the middle. One is flying a huge Canadian flag and one is flying a huge American flag.

Scaffolding and floaties hang under the bridge deck.
