We just published the first study showing that a bird-of-prey goes through an ontogenetic window of exploratory play. Young goshawks look like young cheetahs when tossing pine cones into the air, chasing after them. Just published in Animal Behaviour: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 1/4

neuro postdoc @UMD interested in how juvenile play shapes later life decision making. Also: climbing | biking | Arsenal | Baltimore (she/her)
Well it's raining in Baltimore which means half the traffic lights don't work! Godspeed to my fellow cyclists/pedestrians attempting to cross 395 at Conway to get to Camden Station
it’s a beautiful day, I will not let arsenal football club hurt me

Baltimore did it first 😎 Shoutout @charmcitygooners.bsky.social; I've looked through all our photos & videos from the day of the trophy lift like a million times since then. An absolute blast
There is currently an open-top bus of Arsenal fans riding through Brooklyn, celebrating either a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Coventry or a Premier League title that was secured 3 months ago.
Bruno Guimarães says he “needed a new challenge in my life”. well i too have a new challenge in my life starting today: getting used to the sight of bruno g - BRUNO G - in an arsenal kit 😅
Discovered in the 11th hour that our lab's actual poster tube has been lost so here's my solution to cycle home tonight 😂 See you soon @grc-frontal-cortex.bsky.social!

Lol 8 am Sunday poster at SfN when I am a member of a close friend's wedding party Saturday night... wish me luck
I will never understand why so many universities effectively punish trainees for winning funding. At UMD, F32s come with: 1) a small pay cut (unless PI has non-grant funds to supplement), 2) loss of retirement benefits & employee health insurance, 3) quarterly, non-tax withheld salary payments
UC Davis will no longer pay the difference so that GRFP recipients earn the same as other students. So mid-PhD students will lose nearly 25% of salary & new students will make less than their peers. Apply for the GRFP, it’s a wonderful help to your career. Just don’t come here if you get one.
I just got a flat tire on my bike because it's so hot that an old patch literally melted right off. That's a new one
I walked to the grocery store and discovered a new little free library, had a random teenage girl walk by me and tell me she loved me and to have a good afternoon, and walked by a guy dressed and signing like he thought he was in a white guy 90s rap video. I love it here.
Like we just have to move forward. If he puts on the Arsenal kit, it's like shaking the Etch A Sketch. 🤣
I do NOT have time to go back and delete the many years of shit I've posted about Bruno from my timeline.
It's Pride Night at Camden Yards, and your ride is FREE. ⚾ In partnership with the @orioles.com , Camden Line service runs free from 3:30 p.m. right to the park, with a bonus train home 30 minutes after the final out. Skip the traffic. Ride MARC. 🚂 mta.maryland.gov
Everyone shut up I finally got a video of Jyn doing her cartoon snoring thing
Light rail train was just so late that people clapped when it appeared. Baltimore deserves so much better than this nonsense
I love this piece. I love that someone else has spent as much time as I have over the past few weeks musing over why this feels so important, why we care so much. I can't even pull a quote from it because I love it all so much.
📝 NEW: Arsenal’s PL triumph and the historic celebrations that have followed are significant, not just because of the 22-year wait but for another reason as well: it reminds us of the power of seeing the potential in one another. thenonnegotiables.substack.com/p/an-oasis-o...
annoyed that my python script is taking excessively long to run... surely this has nothing at all to do with the 982371638765 Chrome tabs I have open at any given time that perpetually occupy 80% of my laptop's RAM
It’s worth the time to read, and it’s worth the time to comment. No, it’s not completely futile. Even if the current admin steamrolls ahead, comments become part of the record that legislatures, judges, and advocates can use in the future. Absolutely terrifying. This would completely destroy American scientific research.
A couple passed our area with a sleeping baby and everyone sang in whisper until they passed 😂 Sensational vibes today.
The best thing about today is everyone from everywhere is here. London at its very best.
Whoever gave them a mic deserves a medal this is incredible
Really, really hurts. But I love this team so much, nonetheless, whatever the weather (which, of course, is why it hurts; I wanted this for them)
This could be very VERY BAD. It looks like a way to remove transparency of peer review, which would enable political apparatchiks to have much more power over decisions on where grant money goes.
