I reanalyzed the CDC data behind the LGB “free fall” headline. It rests on a change in bisexual identification among one grade, in one wave, of one survey. Gay or lesbian identification did not change significantly. Calling it a "free fall" is sensational and just gives bad actors talking points.

Six small line charts showing the percent of U.S. high school students choosing each sexual identity response option by grade (9th to 12th), 2015 to 2025, with 95% confidence intervals. Heterosexual falls from about 85 to 90 percent before 2021 to about 73 percent in 2021 and 2023, then rises to about 78 to 80 percent in 2025. Gay or lesbian stays between about 2 and 5 percent throughout. Bisexual rises to about 12 percent in 2021 in every grade, then among 9th graders falls to about 7 percent in 2025, its 2019 level, while other grades stay near 10 percent. “Some other way,” added in 2021, falls from about 4 percent to about 2.5 percent. “Not sure” stays near 3 to 5 percent. A dotted line marks 2021, when CDC changed the response options.

Young teenagers are less likely to identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual than a few years ago, according to a new analysis. “It really does look like a free fall,” Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology, said. “But what’s causing it is unclear.”

My god. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do.

Interviewer: can you explain this gap i- Speedrunner: So we set up that gap back in 2009 to get this question now. Now we're gonna stand on a box in the corner, rotate to a precise angle, and do a frame-perfect jump aaaand we're CEO. Time!

Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume? Illustrator: That’s called negative space. It gives the composition some breathing room and draws focus onto the parts of the image that are important to the idea that is being conveyed.

The graph has no source. The tweet says "if confirmed". There are multiple people saying that the graphs that do have sources are being misinterpreted. Please use your heads when spreading "breaking" stories that match your preconceptions too closely, especially if a grifter account is involved.

The article this item refers to is being lambasted for disingenuous framing, poor methodology, and biased sources. Bluesky: "Let's just put the headline as the 'trending' topic as if it were true at face value. This is a valueless action. We are very smart."

A screenshot of an item in the "Trending" box on Bluesky, reading "3. Fewer teens identify as gay or bisexual"

So there's a nonzero chance I'm going to be progressively losing the use of my right leg, and there's nothing I can do about it. The hospitals don't have an MRI I fit in, so I have to have an outpatient referral. Even if I could afford the consult to get the MRI scheduled, I can't afford the MRI.
