I enjoyed seeing The Odyssey! I liked the art direction and cinematography and acting particularly. But that being said, this critique by Emily Wilson is a fascinating read. I found I agreed with a lot of her points about the plot — to me, the meat — of the film. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

I don’t know how to convince anyone of this, but the hundreds or thousands of words many publications run below the headline aren’t decorative. Often they contain nuance that doesn’t fit into ten words.

Just because an author hasn't released a book in years doesn't mean that they're lazy or not working hard on their next one. There's so many reasons for a big gap between novels. Granted, in my case, it's because I'm lazy and not working particularly hard but I mean for others.

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.

The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.

I enjoyed this retrospective look at the all-women Ghostbusters reboot. I was a teen when it came out and I'll never forget the row of little girls all sitting in front of me in the theatre. At the end, they stood up to dance and cheer with the credits. www.theguardian.com/film/2026/ju...
