I make a living writing science fiction and fantasy. Mostly fantasy. It's been said I've never met a trope I didn't skewer. I'm good with that. Also, there's cats. And knitting. she/her

Today's word is PASS. Today's #BookQW from INTO THE BROKEN LANDS (DAW Books, Inc. 2022) a created world fantasy that is, like all of my books at heart, about self awareness. Who am I? How do other people see me? Can that body part be reattached? Do we stop to bury him, or do we go on?

DAW cover with crows and a ruined tower lower left. Digital cover with tentacles and a ruined tower lower right. Tentacles have escaped into the lower centre. It's not a squid.

Lyelee shifted forward on her seat as they passed beneath the gate, readying herself for the first glimpse of the city her ancestors had fled.
When the wagon emerged back into the sunlight, she stood, braced herself against the curved frame supporting the wagon's painted canvas top, took a deep breath, and looked around.
     There were no ruins

Could be you Ontario. Instead we elected a corrupt, unprepared, dope. A climate denier. Three times. Our electricity rates just went up, again. This time by 30%. Do you remember when Doug Ford promised to reign in the cost of hydro? I do. #onpoli #FordFailedOntario electrek.co/2025/11/04/a...

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Welcome to Craft Beer Summer. Our 5th contestant is whatever the heck this is. We had it during our first internet outage, the can is gone, and I took no notes. I do know I didn't like it. Conversely, the Beloved really liked it. Possibly because it didn't taste like beer.

On the left, a beer can where the sixties funky art makes it impossible to tell what the the name of the beer is. On the right, a hazy beer half filling the Burger King Uhura Star Trek glass.

I've had no internet since Tuesday. I have internet again! The KOS tech was amazing and didn't have to climb the antenna which we were both happy about. Honestly, the only thing I really missed was email. And my weather app. And Tortuga on Zombie Castaways. And the ability to access the library.

#SDCC comic con: our daughter left her 3D printed black dragon in the restroom near E/Starbucks. She printed it herself and is devastated. We checked the restroom and lost and found which means someone picked it up. If you bring it to 5552 I will give you a signed comic as reward

Nothing spells knowledge of CORRUPTION like telling your MPPs to “keep it in the strictest confidence.” Not only does elitist autocrat nepo baby Ford thinks he’s entitled to his Gravy Plane he looks like he’s buying loyalty by giving MPPs secret perks. It’s disgusting #Onpoli

In 2021, Premier Doug Ford was personally presented with 20 recommendations to improve emergency management in northern Ontario. The auditor general later offered another 30. Little progress was made before the deadliest wildfire season on record. thenarwhal.ca/ontario-igno...

Today's word is DECIDE. Today's #BookQW is from THE SILVERED, an Aurora Award winning, standalone, created world fantasy where the clothing DOES NOT change when the shifters do. Seriously, that whole clothing changes with the body thing really gets up my nose. 1/3

The digital cover is in the upper right side and the wolf head made of connected stars from the digital cover takes up the rest of the right side. On the left, the quote.

"Finally decided to join us, Lord Hagen?" Harry's voice cut through
the ambient nose.
Tomas raised his head. Harry stood by his pony, a little apart from his men, holding the missing greatcoat. Two quick steps and a leap over the head of a sitting soldier, too startled to do anything but swear, put him at Harry's side. He changed and turned at Harry's gesture, allowing the other man to slide the sleeves up over his arms, grimacing as the fabric came in contact with filthy skin. He needed a long bath and the vigorous application of a scrub brush.
"If you mean did I decide to spend the remainder of the day sitting around with you doing nothing," he replied, tightening the belt and turning, "then, yes."

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

Yesterday Toronto had worst air quality in the world. Ford has cut 184 M from forest fire budget and spent 452 M on advertising! Don’t buy that he’ll ‘spare no expense’ fighting these fires his track record shows his true priorities! More on tonight’s OShow Scandal Panel #Onpoli
