I can’t say enough how vital this kind of writing is. It shouldn’t be rare to see decision makers & leaders being held to account, but this is one of the few crystal clear, absolutely on point articles I’ve seen outside of the excellent work being done by those who don’t have a mainstream platform.
“There is at least one important section of society where little shittery is rampant, destructive and harmful to the environment of the workplace. It’s actively impeding the ability of well-behaved people to perform well & limiting productivity. I’m talking, of course, about parliament.” No notes🙌
These are innately supremacist narratives, the endings of which we know. The ideas “fit” into contemporary concerns on the surface: young people’s mental health & wellbeing, future tax bases for future states, egalitarian policies for distribution of resources. But don’t be fooled.
In times like these, it’s important to pay attention to the grand unifying narratives ideas are hooking on to. Like that children are there to be controlled by adults, like babies and birth are commodities to be controlled by the state, like citizenship is a state more valuable than non-citizenship.
Ancient little guys of the day! These prehistoric baby bottles in the shape of little creatures were found were found in Bronze and Iron Age graves in Vösendorf (Austria). Actually, a study was conducted on these bottles around 2019 and they found traces of ruminant milk!
the current NZ govt is so anti-science that they've changed eligibility for the Prime Minister's Science Prizes to rule out awards to people doing basic science eg from 2026 the MacDiarmid is for work with "potential to generate econ, health, social, or env benefits for New Zealand" #nzpol
It’s been a long, long time since I’ve watched a season of television as boldly written as The Vampire Lestat. Unhurried, deliberate, fearless, and so much fun to watch.
I think the thing I resent most about gen AI- and this is a selfish thing to say but it’s true- is that it’s put an asterix on my sense of wonder. What I mean is that now when I see an amazing or beautiful image I can’t have that initial “wow!” reaction. I doubt. I have to verify. I hate it.

"A solar farm on a rewetted peatland is home to more types of bird than drained agricultural fields nearby, suggesting that land used for renewable energy can make money for landowners, lock away carbon and boost biodiversity at the same time."
Wildlife thrives in solar farm built on restored peatland
A diverse range of bird species has been recorded at a solar park on rewetted peatland in Germany, suggesting that combining energy generation with habitat restoration could benefit biodiversity, the climate and the economy

Here's a fun fact about Elon Musk: in 2020, his (nominal) net worth was $20b, and today it's $1t (nominally). But *that's* not the fun fact; *this* is: everything he's done since 2020 was a flop. 1/
So many men assume hierarchy is the only way to organize. So for them feminism means women dominate men, as they now dominate women and children under patriarchy. Feminism centers care and collaboration over hierarchy. Which is genuine equality for everyone.
These aren’t just typos or autocorrect problems requiring a bit of proofreading: AI tools invented diagnoses, prescribed the wrong drugs, invented blood tests, and missed out mental health symptoms. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"Why should people be getting that money when billionaires could be getting it instead?"
I keep being reminded of this question and answer: "What is the problem that AI services are being built to solve?" "Wages."
If you prime people towards intrinsic/selfless values on one issue it strengthens those same values for other issues! This is why I'm always yelling about leftwing parties buying into rightwing frames
Intriguing bit of data I've written about this week. Pro-Palestine voters became substantially more left-wing on a range of unrelated questions between May 2023 and May 2025 www.economist.com/britain/2026... The war in Gaza has turned a cohort of voters leftwards
every time i see a white guy in their fifties radicalized by the twitter algorithm into racism and extremism i think about how it's a total failure of the youtube algorithm to instead radicalize him into home brewing, elaborate A/V setups, or DIY solar
This. I've had a bit of jovial "virtue signalling" pushback against my pins and t-shirts, but this is why I wear them: so the right people know they're safe around me.

6. What the ghouls don't tell you is that in NZ - given our persistent deficits with the rest of the world - we can only really reduce Govt debt levels by increasing private debt levels. Those celebrated Govt surpluses were made possible by spiralling private debt. Cheers! [Ends]
This is the University of Central Florida. So many people really have no idea how much kids hate this shit.
this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.
