The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

How's everybody's day going and what are everyone's plans to build the labor movement so we can unfuck the planet?
Today I heard Shawn Fain tell a room full of 1000 higher ed workers that Gretchen Whitmer is a sell out piece of shit who carried water for the Ford company during their last contract campaign
We all win with Medicare for All! The UAW supports Medicare for All because everyone deserves quality healthcare. M4A would also strengthen our hand at the bargaining table to fight for better wages, time off, and retirement security for every UAW member!
We have $ for a dozen ICE agents to hang around for hours trying to arrest 2 roofers working in MN. Meanwhile, the agency that investigates and prosecutes violations of Americans' right to organize is shedding staff again. Now down to like 1 agency staff per 145,000 workers.
This is a great piece on Trump's near-destruction of the National Labor Relations Board. (And I'm betting they don't let the Acting GC go on-the-record about anything after his performance here. Kudos to @msainato.bsky.social for a very effective interview.) www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
Just sat down at a wine bar and one of the bartenders just said "all of the wines we have right now are fucking disgusting" to the other bartender

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.
The federal government is proposing changes that would end support for real science in the US. Comments on the proposal must be made by Monday. Comments matter. Comment: www.regulations.gov/commenton/OM... Helpful summary from Ars: arstechnica.com/science/2026...

Your comments on a dangerous rule putting politicals in charge of science can matter.

"NSF employees are now concerned that the $1 billion of withheld funds will not be released. If they are not, the combination of withheld funds and clawbacks would result in funding cuts of more than 30% for most directorates compared with their planned spending for 2025"
New: The National Science Foundation is preparing to claw back some $500 million in funds from some of its core science programs in physics, math, computer science, and engineering in order to fund a project from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

PLEASE SIGN to support Prof Tiffany Willoughby-Herard! 2 yrs ago Prof W-H stood up to protect students, rightly declaring “we cannot have a genocidal foreign policy in a democracy” while being violently arrested. Tell UCI to DROP all disciplinary charges against her! sites.google.com/view/withdra...
"Adventurism" is a specific term that means exactly what you're saying. Naomi Klein isn't being glib about imperialism
this pattern will keep repeating until people stop framing "shooting brown foreigners for money" as "an adventure"

In non-union work news, I'm co-author on a paper in Blood and one of our images made it onto the cover 🩸
People are right to be mad about the predictable Platner fiasco, but it's worth remembering that last year a ton of establishment Democrats supported disgraced sexual harasser Andrew Cuomo against clean-as-a-whistle Zohran. Tolerating problem men is an issue across the ideological spectrum.
