I’m watching the BBC SMILEY’S PEOPLE for the first time and yes it’s astonishingly great. Two observations: Guinness gets Smiley’s oppressive silence as tool perfectly; and it’s so perfect that the car that Guillame drives in Paris is a 924.
Winning the presidency doesn’t say what people assume it does about popular support. It’s a big part of the reason I think the US needs a parliamentary system.
James Felix Black@tft.io · 13h agoI think that this can help explain a lot of the weird nonsense that people of all political persuasions believe — they simply have internalized that winning an election means popular mandate and can’t get to grips that they simply doesn’t follow.
How is it — in a population of 67MM with a tradition hundreds of years old of competitive parliamentary democracy — how is it that there’s not one normal politician on TERF Island?

James Felix Black@tft.io · 2d agoMy mom worked in the refugee camps on the Thai/Cambodia border and we sponsored Cambodian refugees from the Khmer Rogue and I will never forgive him or anyone else who capes for that enormity.
This is super critical and it's been a hobby horse of mine for a while now. Proprioception beats visual memory a million times out of ten. Physical controls for functions I as a driver need while driving are non-negotiable.
