Like, Prof. Ally-the-Raptor is all set up to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts but then they bring out the statement she has to sign and she walks because hey - look, when we were in a single-sex environment, Steve decided to make a change and she's not selling him out like that.
It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

Remember, free market efficiency means "Sure, we can cut that corner. Who's it gonna hurt?" The purpose of government regulation is to save lives. Most are written in blood, funerals, or misery. The deregulatory urge is one of annoyance at checking for melamine or sewage in baby formula.

I have heard this outbreak is being caused by Taylor Farms lettuce used at Taco Bell, but considering their lettuce is at Costco and Kroger and Walmart and Target and Safeway and Albertsons and Whole Foods (and other fast food chains) for now let us just avoid lettuce.
Say it again. This is Taylor Farms' second Cyclospora outbreak, the first being in 2013. They've also had two E. coli outbreaks, one in 2015 and another in 2024.

Monte Testaccio is a hill in Rome entirely made out of ancient Roman trash! It is composed of carefully piled up terracota shards from about 53 million amphorae. Most of them were used to store olive oil. It is close to the River Tiber, near the Horrea Galbae, ancient warehouses for imported goods.

Suspect I'd feel the same level of eyeroll about whatever this is reacting to, but also thinking about the way I spent a couple decades feeling like SF was all Cold War hot takes, despite actually knowing better; sometimes it's just finding the right micro-genres to find your path in.

I had this as "Cambric tea" when I was sick as a kid (ginger optional)-- here we tend to go for teas called things like "throat coat" or "throat soother" b/c everyone likes the licorice notes, but always good to remember the basics in case your run out of teabags!
Marissa Lingen@marissalingen.bsky.social · 3w agoWhisking honey, lemon juice, and ginger (fresh is great, powdered will do) into boiling water and (letting cool to a safe drinking temperature and) drinking will not do anything for your lungs on apocalyptic smoke days, but it's good for your throat. Hang in there, neighbors.

The tragedy is watching (a) become (b) in, for instance, food safety.

Also "what would Homer say if he saw this movie!" First of all, we don't know if Homer was even a real person, or an amalgamation of poets instead. And secondly, in the stories about Homer that we have, he was famously blind.
I inherited my grandmother's tobacco allergy, and continue to be incredibly grateful I live in a time & part of the world where I can safely go do things in public places without having to worry about it.
