I wrote a whole book about this. Platonic friendships can be just as fulfilling as romantic ones. Get you a ride or die group, love each other, support each other, rob a train together.... okay maybe that last one is only for the book, but you know what I mean.

One of the stereotypes I hate the most is that "real friendship between women doesn't exist" and that toxic, mutually sabotaging relationship between them is normal because "this is how things are". No, they aren't, some people are just shitty and being a piece of shit isn't gender-related.

On sunday we had to say goodbye to my beloved cat/companion/familiar/copilot in life, Bird. She was not only the babiest of cats, frequently sent discord messages, and loved everyone the moment she met them. I've been drifting around since, unable to focus on projects without her supervision.

Look, I've had to pivot so often that I've spent my life dancing. 1) Tumor and major surgery at 17 made me take risks I used to be too afraid to consider: travel alone, become outgoing, fearless approach to mistakes. 2) changed degrees 2 years into journalism to Interactive media design (IT)

I think, as an extension of Olivia's point, that in order to produce a satisfying ambiguous ending, the author needs to earn the trust of the reader throughout the book. If we fumble the body of the book, an ambiguous ending will feel like a mistake, or cop out instead of thought-provoking.

Having thought on this, my instinctive reaction is that this take ASSUMES a problem with the READER, rather than exhibiting curiosity in why it happens. There can be good reasons to find ambiguity suspicious or distasteful. Ambiguity requires trust, and authors are not OWED trust—they must earn it.

Neurologist says more specifically that I've been having a constant migraine for 3 months at this point, which is kind of validating, considering how absolutely crap I've been feeling, physically and mentally. I'd like chronic migraines to stop being upon me now.

I absolutely love this explanation. First-first draft is where I start the story, stumble, then realise what needs to change for the story to feel right. This gets tossed completely to an archived folder. (delete nothing!) Second-first draft is where the story flows start to finish.

First draft is for telling yourself the story, revisions are for telling your readers the story.
