Hi all, Reaching out because the job hunt has been terrible and I am feeling very discouraged. If anyone has leads for writing gigs or any remote work or things in the NYC area I would be so so very grateful.
Studios love taking a chance on a new up and coming director…when they’re a cis white man. 🙃
Contributor copies of HELTER SKELTER and SAKURAN in my LiLiCo shrine 🍒🌸🫧💋 (c/o @jaspersharp.bsky.social @sarahappleton.bsky.social and @timessqkungfu.bsky.social 🙏💖)
Incredible writing as always from the immensely talented @violetshrieks.bsky.social 🌺 also peep my LiLiCo nails
The amount of cis men currently directing films about women’s trauma and doing it POORLY. Please stop. Just please.
So moved that someone secretly sent this to me 😭🏳️⚧️
Dear hive mind: working on a horny horror crones piece. Wondering if anyone has some deep cut suggestions for films to look at (things like X and Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker are already on the list)
UPDATE: as of posting this I just got a PayPal for my invoice. Keeping this up thought because honestly no one should be dealing with this
Hate to call out a distribution company but I would really think twice about supporting Terror Vision. It’s been over a year since I wrote an essay for their release of Patchwork and I still have not been paid.
This does not surprise me - I'm done pre-ordering anything from them since I've got two big batches of pre-orders I placed at @orbitdvd.bsky.social that stupidly included a TerrorVision title that've been sitting in limbo for months cuz TV can't get their shit together. Spend your money elsewhere

All I've heard about them behind the scenes for the past year or so is that nobody gets paid and nobody gets sent contributor copies. So yeah, not great.
Yo Terror Vision, sort your shit out.

Important thread. People need to be paid for their hard work!

Read this thread and avoid supporting Terror Vision

Few of you asked what company I was talking about the other day re: not paying contributors/not sending contributor copies/having emails ignored. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like that was an isolated incident!

It was a joy? To write this 🤣
I was absolutely staggered by THE CREMATOR, which is as damning a portrayal of masculinity ("masculinity") as I've ever seen on film. So after she talked about it on the podcast, we asked @theneonbanshee.bsky.social to also write an essay about the film.

"Kopfrkingl in THE CREMATOR is scary because he is so malleable, which has much to do with the fact that he does not stand on any strong ideals or sense of self." Here's Tori Potenza on THE CREMATOR, a post-war horror film that's impossible to shake.
People are really still out there saying if you watch a movie you endorse everything fictional that happens on screen irl? Bring back media literacy I beg.
Didn't think we'd ever cover a Criterion release on the podcast, didja? Welp, welcome back @theneonbanshee.bsky.social as this week's special guest, who brings us her latest sleepover favorite (no joke), Juraj Herz's THE CREMATOR. Oh the places this conversation goes...

Got to explore an interesting aspect of Cronenberg’s work, cult mentality and the many forms it takes.
From VIDEODROME to THE BROOD and beyond, Cronenberg’s films don’t just scare, they challenge how we think about science, technology, and power. Read our latest article by @theneonbanshee.bsky.social #horrorsky
