It took just seven years to go from, "They have chosen to make New Zealand their home and it is their home" (Jacinda Ardern), to "Go back to your own country" (Winston Peters).
👋 Public Health Communicator from Australia here. One of the reasons Australia punches above its weight in sports is that it prioritizes sports science. It's no surprise that Aussie athletes like the swim team have been consistently masking to prevent themselves getting sick before competitions.
Cantabrians can choose their future representation arrangements, but only if they choose correctly? #nzpol
A declaration by Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey that a Greater Christchurch council is "inevitable" has prompted some councillors to question whether the Government's consultation process is genuine.
Absolute scenes as councils up & down the country race to consult on rushed amalgamation proposals foisted on communities by a government that neither likes nor understands localism. #nzpol
Contrast TOP's position on NZF with the Greens'. 1/2
And then there is the one that really set me off. She was on BHN last night (props to Chewie and Pat, they did a good job holding her feet to the fire), and they asked her if she can work with NZF despite all the evil things they've done. She said she'd try to. That should be a red flag right there
National isn't being PULLED to the right by NZF or Act, they are CHOOSING to go in that direction. Yes, you can partly put the blame on Luxon being a wet paper towel at the negotiating table, but really it's because this is what National want to do, but never want to speak of it.
The Green Party will fix the rules so all of us can drink, swim, and fish in the places we love 🐟💚 See our greens.org.nz for the full policy: www.greens.org.nz/waterforlife
I think these two headlines demonstrate what people mean by a "K shaped economy", the policies behind it all, who benefits & who loses, it feels really messed up and gross. #nzpol
Extremely bad news today; Medical Council has rolled over and ceased work on drafting statements on cultural safety. Political interference from ACT and Simeon Brown successful. If Labour supports changes to Health Competency Assurance Act, I will spit fecking tacks. www.mcnz.org.nz/about-us/con...

The Government’s latest attack on local government doesn't quite seem to be achieving the desired result. In Auckland Māori reps stay anyway, but ARC members have to go, causing a conflict with Akl Council's own rules ROFL. #nzpol
... in the CEO's report to our Governing Body meeting this coming Tuesday. None of the Houkura (Independent Māori Statutory Board) reps will go because those appointments are under LGACA (specific Act for Akl) not LGA. But, our Audit & Risk Committee's independent members are impacted...
So Luxon says TOP ‘want to make every New Zealander a beneficiary’. Is it a bad thing to receive something beneficial? Is that what our PM means here? Or is 'beneficiary' somehow a slur? I wonder. #nzpol
Any party willing to put NACT back in power after all the anti Māori, anti women, anti queer people, anti environment and anti democracy shenanigans of the last 3 years is not serious and not worth voting for. #nzpol
Incredible scoop here from @yeehawtheboys.bsky.social #nzpol
A wealth tax?! That's economic lunacy! We must be doing everything in our disposal to please the wealthy! Read Chris Luxon's full statement, exclusive to my Substack: yeehawtheboys.substack.com/p/economic-l...

This conundrum can be cleared up by consulting the minister's diary, right? Right? #nzpol
"Meanwhile, Education Minister Erica Stanford said she could not remember if she had coffee with the head of Learning First before or after the company was given the contract."

A super fan of a Christchurch fried chicken meal has spent more than $8000 in less than a year on the popular crispy dish.
Great vibes at the day of action for trans rights in Ōtautahi today.
On the other hand, if you're a fan of really good policies but NOT a fan of National, there's the Greens. #nzpol
It’s wild that the Opportunity Party has a set of really good policies but make it impossible for anyone who shares those values to vote for them by saying they’re happy to go into coalition with National.
I note that worker wages stay in our onshore economy buying goods and services that keep orhers employed. Money spent on imported gas and govt overuse of Ai goes offshore owner/suppliers never to return. These National/NZ First/ACT policies will weaken small business and our economy further. 2/2
In my neighborhood, the Wheels to Wings major cycle route also says Hi! "The surprising finding is how expensive pausing or cancelling projects really is. Delays create inflation costs, productivity losses and defer public benefits that compound over time." #nzpol
#NZPol Water-related projects say Hi!
As @drdeanknight.bsky.social says further down: "...another wrecking ball towards the work of local government — turfing out governance arrangements carefully constructed with their communities." A constitutional change being made without public submission and select committee scrutiny. #nzpol

This Government is unpopular, its policies are a mix of unpopular and pure hated, their culture war rhetoric is not a distraction it's what they want to do. Saying you learned your lessons from 2017-2023 and it's to do less, and keep some of their policies, dude what the fuck is wrong with you.
Seymour: "New Zealand's public service is bloated". Apparently the solution is to require use of a hallucinating (and planet damaging) word-association machine which currently has loss-leader pricing, that will then require humans to check and be accountable for the output. Good luck. #nzpol
