Wake up, open Bluesky, prominent Stancil Replyperson is arguing that you cannot be racist toward AES bc he is “legally white” per obscure 1915 legal ruling and it allowed him to live in “Dearborn, a sundown town” (he’s never lived there), close Bluesky.
Now that Dr. Abdul El-Sayed has won the primary, i think he needs to begin addressing the concerns of people who are extremely racist against him
I think even a vulgar analysis of the win should reach this conclusion: the primary was close because a US record was spent to prop up one side of it, and the Michigan GOP functionally doesn’t exist on the ground or financially.
Republicans will probably lose Michigan's Senate race despite El-Sayed's win. Contrary to the Takes about the primary, the polls and election "fundamentals" do not suggest Stevens would have performed significantly better www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-08-06...
I’m giving the mumbling “i’m still concerned about electability” operatives and thoughtfluencers a one day jubilee to metabolize this election result and this candidate’s messaging. One day to decide whether they actually hold the principles they would have immediately invoked for his opponent.
El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"
Lot of people who refused to accept that building a coalition to win an election is the candidate’s job and not a voter’s moral responsibility suddenly changing their mind on that in real time, I see!
Today The Athletic finally became The New York Times.
Aaron Rodgers spoke out about Dr. Anthony Fauci. Sophie Cunningham spoke out about transgender athletes. Caitlin Clark chose not to weigh in. Three different approaches, one common result: criticism. Steve Buckley on how athletes can't win on social media: nyti.ms/3Sa9A7D
RIP to Perry Johnson’s long head and long teeth filling the full frame of my television set like a jump scare during every TV timeout.
Congratulations to the Haley Stevens campaign on their crackerjack strategy of being super islamaphobic and weirdly antisemitic to Jewish people who disagreed with her policies
This is a frustrating election, and I’m frustrated by HVDSA and GEO’s endorsement. I’d like to see AA’s tenant union succeed, and I think it would if it had more people like Rabhi in Lansing working to repeal the state ban on rent control. So that’s my cryptic endorsement, here. Also vote for Abdul.
#a2Council endorsements: There is still time to vote. If you want a more sustainable and more affordable Ann Arbor, vote for Taylor. www.damnarbor.com/2026/08/elec...
It was a dumb answer but if you get head faked by CNN about Thanksgiving (?!) as if it determines the future of Wisconsin, you are a fuckin rube man.
I have a theory that a big chunk of the socialist fear mongering by liberals is really about the fact that it’s perceived as a youth movement and godforbid the young exert political power
Nope, nice try. Not doing this to myself. You'll have to kill my ass
Speaking of “calling out a trope is not a worthy critique” discourse: watched Cloud (2024) last night, a movie by an insanely great director who knows how to invoke tropes as a means of reaching beyond their usual signifiers toward something deeper, which Nolan is more or less incapable of doing.
*Adding a big meteor labeled “fascism” to a racist cartoon about a globe comprising white western democracy being taken over by swarthy intruders, an idea it would appear I still modestly endorse* if you accuse me of racism you’re the one doing context collapse not me!
This is my 4th time trying to get into the Expanse and I just can’t get past this goddamn hat. You’re in space bro why do you look like a ska band bass player
If we’re going to have absurd ignorance, epistemological collapse, and cultural amnesia in American news media, can we at least not re-discover MFA programs and re-litigate MFA discourse.
Iowa Writers Workshop has existed for 90 years. CNN just discovered it
A lot to take in here, and other bases have been covers, so: “writing books to get richer” is sending me. Wish I had bookscan access, also wish putting out one policy book with OUP and one with Abrams made a person “rich.”
She knows she’s losing so she said let’s just go mask off.
Can’t wait until the coping twitter spectator set learn just how popular DTE is in SE Michigan!
He’s taxing mother’s pied-a-terre and you’re laughing?
I don’t know how this kid is doing this in Letterboxd and want to appreciate it but the low-effort Gen Z joke writing of it all is kinda pissing me off.
The Wislon discourse is a collision of black biles: poptimist apologia and its paranoid insistence that impressive spectacle is serious art, kneejerk defenses of said tepid and ultimately conservative (!) art against its most bad faith readers, a worthy critical pan that needed a better editor—sad!
I think it rules that mainline American Christianity is basically training people to develop antisocial personality disorder. Soon metaphors will simply cease existing altogether.
Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...
Food comes from the grocery store, where it appears every morning
I made this handy chart for the people who keep blaming others for the current state of things.
ESTEEMED SCHOLAR OF HOMER: So frankly, I find Nolan's vision to be sophomoric and it's disappointing that through sheer spectacle this will be the default version in people's heads instead of the text. BILL SIMMONS: Do you think Achilles was a true Alpha Dog?
Ogre-Americans, an imaginary demographic, getting more respect here from the political press than Muslims, who are real people.
El-Sayed comes under fire for 'ogre on a pike' leaked comment
If you endorse a mild version of social democracy in America, anything goes in response to your heresy—it becomes a libidinal moral jubilee for liberals and conservatives alike, equaled only by how hysterically social mores are reinforced if something “nasty” is said about this state of affairs.
we got self-described "Hardcore Democrats" out here making genocide jokes (This account in on here too)
The Stevens campaign's whole insistence that she's more of a Michigander than AES is clearly just racism, especially since the two of them were literally born in the same city.
