Since the EU return directive (until its replacement) explicitly allows Member States to regularise irregular migrants, this would have been a nonsensical and unlawful response to Spain's decision to do so.

Since some folk are back on covid lessons, here's what I find most interesting - that the vast majority of people and countries reacted and adapted magnificently, but that this has broadly been forgotten in our modern day grumpy online culture.
That Covid has roughly killed or caused the deaths of 30000000 people since 2020 and we are still debating it just shows how ill-prepared we are for the next inevitable pandemic.
