i love you mechanical mailbag 😭 we got such great submissions!!! i'm super excited that this is the series launching our first game jam, because we cover like seven different great game ideas in these three episodes hahaha

This Should Be A Game!@thisshouldbeaga.me · 2d ago

The final Happy Death Day episode is out 🔪 We talk about the intersections of the divergent games we designed with our guests, then go in depth on two incredible mechanical mailbag submissions. Lots & lots to in this series to work with for the inaugural #TSBGJam, which is open now!!

i really REALLY enjoyed how far into left field we wandered with this one. what if a TTRPG had a constantly expanding set of players & GMs who essentially had to have council meetings to reconcile the stories of various alternate timelines & also resolution mechanics involved texting your cousin.

Our series turning Happy Death Day into a TTRPG continues with @corpserevivers.bsky.social talking about the weight of consequences, time loop subgenre tropes, & the specific roles that a GM brings to a game 🔪

Got to look at the first printed proofs for All's Fair last night and it's so sexy it's just simply so sexyyyyy 😭 I think you should preorder it so you and someone you find really hot and cool can play a roleplaying game about saving the world while you touch each other under the table

Rise, Wizards! & All's Fair

Rise, Wizards by Robin Ekberg is a dice-stacking, map-making, worldbuilding game of wizard hubris. All's Fair by Dillin Apelyan is an 18+ duet game about wanting to f*ck each other so bad you save th...

the frequency with which i notice myself bringing this energy to game design discussions is... really something. in this episode, it specifically comes up when i basicallyyy decide to sell that actually a really thematically resonant resolution mechanic could involve texting your cousin

screencaps from the simpsons captioned "I mean, I don't want to sound pretentious here... but Itchy and Scratchy comprise a dramaturgical dyad."

i had so much fun recording this. sometimes you realize during a recording that you're in the middle of a test you accidentally trained your whole life for. that's me with time loop stories

I cannot express the POWER and GLEE that coursed through my egotistical veins as I listened to geniuses talk about my game design ideas for twenty minutes

Our final episode turning Looper into a TTRPG is the mechanical mailbag, where we chat about listener submissions-- thank you @ahcoffeebeans.bsky.social, @roleplayretcon.bsky.social, & @queenregnant.bsky.social for giving us such cool & diverse ideas!!

Our opinions on how to make movies into TTRPGs and vice-versa cannot be contained by one podcast also, "You can't convince young people that time exists" is my new favorite thing anyone has ever said

the debut of the mechanical mailbag episodes!! i'm really in love with this concept & excited for it to be a regular feature. these submissions were collected before the episodes started airing & i'm sooo charmed by the showcase of the many different directions you can go from the same inspiration

i cannot overstate how much sean took the "This Should Be a Game!" prompt 'you can dream as big as you want, don't worry about feasibility' & took it places satah & i never even considered. gotta host a game jam based on this episode where you build the spire. & the timecube. & the space elevator.

In the third episode of our series turning Looper into a TTRPG, @seanireland.bsky.social joins us to BUILD THE SPIRE.

some personal highlights from this episode: - a detailed prompt system about where you put your weapon during vulnerable moments - talking about time changing the feelings you remember, both accurately & inaccurately - ponderously holding a d12 in my hand for an hour

Our series TTRPG-ifying Looper continues with @sebastianyue.bsky.social talking about intimacy, receiving care, & tImE cUbEs ⏰🔫

i think i've referenced a point early in this ep abt 45 times in the past couple weeks where during a discussion of what different forms of storytelling particularly excel at, austin names something like "intention" for TTRPGs & it was a big HOOHOOO OH YEAH THAT'S A THING I LOVE HERE moment for me

Sam D@diceexploder.com · 4mo ago

This week on Dice Exploder I've got @austinwalker.bsky.social on to talk Dream Askew / Dream Apart's weak, strong, and regular moves and how they influenced Realis. Diceless games are good! Randomness is overrated! Precise word choice is good game design!

the media club plus livestream here is a MUCH more loadbearing pillar in the concept of the game we discuss than you might expect & i'm so thrilled about it

Games referenced: It's Been A Long Time Coming, Soft Shell, Microscope, Voyagers, Band-Aids & Bullet Holes, I Have the High Ground, Anyone Can Wear The Mask, Mobile Frame Zero: Firebands, Star Crossed, Fiasco, Mysterium, A Knife to Your Throat, Triangle Agency

Other references: Media Club Plus: Keith and Dre Interpret The Sopranos Screenshots, Aaron's Going Rogue video

Our series on why Looper (2012) should be a TTRPG begins with @aavoigt.bsky.social almost immediately asking... what if your kid turned out to be Mewtwo? The answer involves movie stills as scene prompts, inevitability in games, why you shouldn't start play undercover, & more ⏰🔫
