I need a little diversion so I'm joining in the second fishing game jam (a little late). I'm hopig to prototype a little idea I've been bouncing around in the background recently. Some vibes, some magic??, and LOTS of fishing.

We're officially one day into the second #GoneFishingGameJam and somehow we've made it to almost 200 people participating!! If you'd like to join, you've still got 6 days left to make a game! And if you've already joined, be sure to share your progress!! itch.io/jam/gone-fishing-game-jam-ii

"Game dev is one of those jobs you only do when you really want to. It's not going to make your parents proud, you're unlikely to get rich in an industry that lays off people for making superhits, and its a demanding & confrontative job. Why would you let a machine do the thing you're here to do?"

I spent the last few months talking to over 30 game developers about generative AI. It began as a sort of interview survey but became a pretty comprehensive collection of arguments against the technology altogether. www.gamesradar.com/games/why-so...

Praise be! And all hail max width properties! Seriously, supporting Steam Deck up through ultrawides in UI heavy games was rough previously. This feature will save a lot of time. Looking forward to 4.7! #Godot

A screenshot of the changeover of Godot 4.7 snapshot 4. The text says "GUI: Add custom maximum size propery to Control".

Just spent more time than I'd like to admit debugging why my Godot game would not close properly. Turns out there's currently a bug with accessing lambdas in static methods or autoloads. The one time I break my "no lambdas" rule... 🙃

Tried a web build of a little side project in Godot 4 and... yikes. I know web builds get more eyes/plays on itch, but this would probably drive more people away than it would attract.

I've written a book! Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves is the story of procedural generation - the tech behind games like Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress. It's about how it works, the games that use it, and the art and magic behind it. Out May 7th, in bookshops: linktr.ee/next_level 🎲🔮
