I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. I keep repeating this story because it is so illuminating: A teacher said that his students do not view AI as plagiarism, they view it as what they would have written if they had had the time. In my opinion, a watermark (which, to be clear, can be removed in text) destroys that illusion.
