Every shithead on Earth is surrounded by a ring of slightly less unpleasant people ready to go WHOA WHOA WHOA CALM DOWN HE WAS JUST FUNNIN at anybody challenging their behavior. Each of them in turn has their own cloud of assholes, and so on. At scale, this is known as religion.

TUTORIAL TEXT: Press L3 to activate your Lesbian Vision to determine how many fingers to use. MY AAA GIRLFRIEND: That’s too many fingers. TUTORIAL TEXT: She didn’t like that. Try using L1 and R1 to increase or decrease the number of fingers. MY AAA GIRLFRIEND: That’s not enough fingers.

MY AAA GIRLFRIEND: C’mere baby. I want you. *time stops* *VFX outline shimmers around her yellow underwear* ME, THINKING: I think she wants something, but what? *2 seconds later* ME, THINKING: Her underwear seems important. *2 seconds later* ME, THINKING: I bet I can interact with her underwear.

This happened 15 years ago with Snooki from Jersey Shore. The publishing industry cut back on advertising to increase profits, relying instead upon authors' existing platforms to do the heavy lifting. But when that platform isn't targeted AT readers, you get colossal flops like this and Snooki's.

Semafor: Good news for the subset of MrBeast fans who love to read mystery novels: The YouTube giant's collaboration with James Patterson is out Tuesday, accompanied by a flurry of marketing on MrBeast channels. Read My Book, You Could Win $1,000,000, promises one short.
Bad news for publisher HarperCollins: The book-buying subset of MrBeast fans appears to be vanishingly small.
Two people close to the project say The Most Dangerous Games is on track to be a historic bomb, with preorders numbering in the four digits as of last week, a tiny fraction of what the publisher will need to justify Patterson's and YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson's hefty fees. It was at a limp #20 on Amazon's new releases list by Sunday.
Publishers chasing digital audiences is a tale perhaps as old as time, but this one will go down as a demonstration of that strategy's limits.

This is the crux of it. You do not argue that this should be permitted unless you think there's *something* valuable in it. These people don't advocate for hiring young earth creationists into a paleo departments! They don't argue for the hiring of alchemists into chemistry labs!

I think the thing the racist prof defenders imply but don't like to admit is there's no benefit to hiring/debating a guy who says mushrooms are created by fae because it's obviously silly but they do think it's worth your time to debate a race science guy because they think he's partially correct

Ansel Adams on assignment for IBM - one of my favourite shots. Not the usual landscape but the skill of a woman weaving magnetic core memory. The beat up nails captures total “woman in STEM” vibes.

A woman with extremely short painted nails weaving magnetic core memory. A series of rows and columns of wires in a grid.

It's me, a Telegraph columnist, taking a break screaming bloody murder about fairness in the women's sports I wouldn't be caught dead watching to wax lyrical about academic integrity in sociology, a field I consider to be fake, at institutions I consider to be communist indoctrination centers.
