The through line for me is attention, and whether you control it, or whether you allow it to be stolen from you. Meta, TikTok, YouTube are probably the worst because of how they actively prey on you. Bsky is better, but it’s still a feed that changes the subject every 300 characters.

The $50k vs. $1m debate has me thinking about an opinion that might be unpopular, but here it is anyway - financial literacy is a survival skill, and access to money is very low on the hierarchy of needs (because it is the medium of exchange for food, water, shelter, and healthcare)

In high school, my friends and I built a cinematic universe of different stories. One of the characters was CADS - the Control And Domination System - an AI that was trained on internet content to be used for war, and first thing it did after superintelligence was take all the humans' guns away.

I will admit I am kinda offended at this point to see results like these met with reflexive dismissal rather than curiosity. There is so much that wants to be known about these things and how they work.

I'm not sure that "intelligent" is the right word for a machine which can solve open math problems that humans have failed to but it's at least not obvious to me that it isn't. If it's not intelligence, it's still clearly something we haven't seen before.
